IS anyone working on an HTC VIVE compatible mod

Sorry, but you have been TOTALLY MISLEAD by dishonest so-called technical press.

All AAA games use render methods that are NOT stereoscopic compatible. Bump mapping isn't. Parallax mapping isn't. 3D textures used for fog etc are not. The model tricks used to do things like grass and trees don't look right in stereo views either.

So, you would have to DISABLE any feature in FO4 more recent than 1995- and essentially do nothing more than apply FLAT textures to every triangle. The rubbish demoes for Vive and Rift using ancient OpenGL like rendering methods that we haven't see since the days of the Dreamcast- albeit with much better (more triangles) meshes and higer rez textures.

Did you know that ILM CANNOT render the best quality CGI effects in 3D, for instance- and films using ILM SFX are POST CONVERTED for this reason. Naive people think computer rendering provides a stereo option by simply programming a new 'camera' position- this is so so so very WRONG.

Do do a Fallout like world on the Vive would require rending techniques dozens of times more expensive in GPU processing than currently used- and need a whole new set of algorithms to be designed. Some of this work has been done for the popular animated 3D CGI movies (like those from Pixar), but surprisingly, even CGI cartoons are often partially or totally post-converted (fake 3D) because of the render problem. And of course, the cartoons are NOT rendered in anything like real-time.

Not one company seems to be working on a game even as ambitious as Fallout 3 on the Vive/Rift, and this certainly tells you something. So called VR has been failing over and over again since the early 1960s. Microsoft's Kinect was also seen as having 'game change' potential- and we all saw how a lack of 'killer apps' finished that off.

Dark Souls is the most Vive friendly title with the most primitive renderer for a current AAA title. That game should be the first test-bed to see if this type of gaming CAN work on today's VR solutions. I think Dark Souls could be given an acceptable version on very high-end current GPU solutions- and it would answer the question one way or the other.
