Why can't i kill Butch in the 'Escape' section?

Recommended Posts

I just really want to for all the grief he gave me (and other vault dwellers) over the 16 years i had to put up with him.

When i try (during the 'Escape' part of the game) he just falls unconscious so i can't even loot him.

I even have removed his 'essential' flag in my Patch Plugin that loads last in my mod load list. I don't want to use the console to do anything as that just feels like cheating, so i'm looking for another way to fix his annoying desire to stay alive.

Now at some point in the past during when i first started playing and modding Fallout 3 i did manage to kill him in this section of the game, and going on the varios wiki entires about him i should still be able to do this.

I have not use any mods that make everyone essential, so this is one long standing niggle i have remaining in my modded game. So please help me be able to kill him in the gameplay.

In FO3Edit the entries i have for Butch are:(Non-Player Character>0001CE26>CG03Butch>Butch)

Fallout3.esm: Essential, No Low Level Processing

Patch Plugin Load Last.esp: No Low Level Processing

There are no other references for this Char, so it must be the right one, but even with the removal of the 'Essential' flag in that last esp he still remains non-killable in my game set up.

So any suggestions on what to do, thanks in advance.

Ok i worked it out. There is a duplicate entry for Butch (actually 3, 2 in Fallout.esm and 1 in FWE).

The mod part in question is:

FO3 Wanderers Edition Followers Enhanced (BrokenSteel).esp

Butch is set as essential in this, and this entry is not overridden by my entry in my Patch Plugin Load Last.esp, so that essential flag over-rules any earlier instance in my load order. So a quick edit to 'copy as override' this instance of Butch into my Patch Plugin Load Last.esp and removing the essential flag here solved the issue. I can now kill Butch as i should be able to in Escape, if i so wish.

Might help others that have come across this issue also.
