teespoon
Hello forums! =:3 I would like help from any kind & patient person who could help me, even in the least! I specifically need to know where to install the G.E.C.K, and how to get the G.E.C.K to update. I installed to Computer-OS-Programfiles-Steam-SteamApps-Common-Fallout New Vegas. I've uninstalled because I couldn't get the update to go through via an error message. This is my major roadblock. Also, if somebody could explain to me what I should do next, once I get the program to actually work. I have the common sense to follow the tutorials on the G.E.C.K site, although I may still require some assistance. I have a few ideas for mods I really would like to make possible. Thank you for your patience!
kevkiev
From what I've read on the forums, you need the post 1.3 patch version of the geck. Never could find the 1.3 NV Geck on the bethesda site, but found it here in this thread (note to self: self, give GenocideLolita a kudo) Sounds like you have it installed in the right place. That's about all I can add. I just used the Geck for the first time yesterday.
drakeelvin
As an addendum to what @kev said, even though the official site is a mess and a pain to figure out how to navigate, it is good to become familiar with it because they do have invaluable information on there. Learning to find stuff is a pain, however, but worth it. Here are a couple of tips for navigating around the Official Website FINDING NVGECK DOWNLOAD On the top horizontal menu bar click Downloads. Then on the right-hand sidebar click G.E.C.K. (Don't click the GECK on the top horizontal menu bar, that's the tutorial) You should end up here: Official GECK Download This gets you New Vegas GECK v1.3 and you must have that version or it won't work. That's the same one that @Geno gave the direct link for just at a different download site. INSTALL AND RUN Once you install GECK (you had the right location) remember to always run it as Administrator. Right-click the icon and choose "Run as Admin..." from the drop down menu. It is not the same as having Admin priveledges on your account, you need to use right-click drop-down to ensure the program runs with all the Admin rights. OFFICIAL TUTORIAL To find the tutorial, from the offical page just click on G.E.C.K. on the top horizontal menu bar, that will bring you here: GECK Official Page. Even though the tutorials are for Fallout 3 its the same engine and many of the GECK objects are the same, its just locations and vault numbers that are different in New Vegas. On the offical page just click G.E.C.K. on the top horizontal menu bar to get here. SUMMARY As I said, the direct link the @Geno provides is great, but to get into GECK you will benefit a lot from the information at the offical site so it is good to become familiar with it. They made it a pain to deal with when you are a newcomer. Also, I found the "My First Vault" tutorial series pretty ambitious for a newcomer to GECK but also invaluable because they teach you a lot of things about how to use the Render Window when placing objects in GECK, and that's invaluable. But I would also say that for most people's very first mod its usually a simple item or set of items they put in a container and drop somewhere for people to get. Lots of mods go that route, Tailor Maid is an excellent example, it puts all the clothing in containers that get dropped behind Doc Mitchell's house in Goodsprings.
