does a working sniper carbon fiber mod exist?

if you could preserve with what you've done and get it to work, i'd be eternally grateful, not too bothered about the appearance not changing to the CF look, the weight is the important thing :)

did you mean you created a brand new rifle that weighed 3lbs and had the CF look to it, or you found a way to make the CF parts work?

No, couldn't get the CF mod to work, just made a unique version of the regular sniper weighing 3 lbs. Actually, maybe that's why adding the CF mod didn't change appearance - ie maybe reducing the stated (tho not actual) weight to less than nothing by adding on the (-5lb) CF parts to a 3lb rifle mucked something up somehow (just guessin'). I think I kept the backup, I can check after work. Though even if so, I recall I ended up screwing around with a bunch of other stats as kind of an experiment. Assuming the new post-patch GECK doesn't give me a hassle, I could probably wip another one up without much problem in the next couple days (no promises tho). Were you looking for any particular change to DAM, critical DAM, clip size, or a nightvision scope (those are all just a click here and there, so within my meager skillset). Maybe a modded GOBI? (gotta love its cool cammo look) It's pretty easy to do if you wanted to try the geck yourself and there's a ton of how-to-create-a-weapon tutorials around, though I wouldn't mind - it's kinda fun.

by all means see if you can get any joy out of the new geck, i literally was just after a vanilla sniper with no stat changes, i want it looking exactly the same as the standard rifle but weighing what its meant to.

is it possible to give this "unique" sniper to the gun runners and price it at a cost of a sniper plus the cf parts then limit it to a single copy in the whole game so other sniper rifles will be standard models?

i dont have the game infront of me at the moment but when browsing a shop, but would it show the diff weight and any mods attached to a weapon? thinking that might be a easy way to distinguish that its the fixed one as i want it to look exactly the same as a normal one, same name, same models used etc.

i assume the suppressor will go on without any issue?

Yikes, this is well beyond my noob skillset but, what the heck, I want to get better at the geck anyways, and I'm just drunk enough to take on a challenge (it's Calgary Stampede time yo! ) so, what the hay (Stampede reference, ha ha... ha.... *ahem*) I'll look into it.

edit: ok, so I think I was mistaken about the added CF parts not appearing visually. It's just that the change is so subtle that I mustn'ta noticed it at first (can only really notice it in first person and not third). I may have even figured out how to add it to GunRunners. So I'm going to (try to) make 2 versions: 1 priced at base cost + CF parts base costs, and another @ base cost only so you can add the CF parts at the base cost for that mod and get the full visual effect while retaining economic realism. (I'm thinkin' you'll be able to identify the weapon by its weight easily enough, without regard to the price) Both of which should work equally well or, quite frankly at this point, not at all. It seems to take the suppressor as well (even though I changed the base id, but not the name) although, with both vanilla mods, I can only be 99% sure of that because I run WMX and disabling that mod while having weapons that depend on it crashes my game when I test things out, and I'm not going to screw around too much with that scene. But it takes the vanilla mods but not the WMX-specific extra clip while I have WMX running so I'm pretty sure the mods applicable to whatever it is I've made, whether or not you're running WMX, will only be the vanilla ones. (I hope that all made sense.) Back to the geck now.....

edit: turns out that adding to a vendor's inventory is a lot more involved than I thought. Sorry, but too much for me. And my game is going nuts with freezups and CTDs now (doubt its connected to the geck thing) so it looks like I'll be busy trouble shooting for a while.

Ya know, after the 1.4 patch, I think the answer is now YES!

I didn't notice it before, but I was just adjusting my inventory and I noticed that adding a CF-modded sniper rifle, and then dropping it again, indeed resulted in a 3lb difference.

Didn't see it on the patch's change list, but it seems to have been included.

!

now its time to decide to get that update or hold off as apparently powered power armor doesn't play too nice in 1.4, might stick the patch on there, check it out and be glad if its fixed!
