Fallout New Vegas GECK Tutorial

I'm going to create *VOICED* video tutorials on how to become acquainted with the GECK. There is a shockingly low number of videos on how to mod, and some times text tutorials raise questions which people end up posting on here. So I'm hoping this may inspire those who are struggling to get the hang of it (I know it took me a while, and all of the video tutorials I've seen are either in another language of some D-bag talking about the sandwich he ate a few minutes ago...

Ok so I was thinking I would organize the lessons like this:

(1) Talk about the proper way to load mods on the geck.

(2) Talk about cells and locations.

(3) Moving/Looking around

[Lesson 2:

|
] Level Design

(1) The "a" key light shortcut for dark maps

(2) Selection of objects (talk about object window)

(3) Placing Objects/controls (rotation/etc.)

(4) Doors

(5) Containers

(6) NavMesh

[Lesson 3] Customization of Objects (editing the base of objects)

(1) Talk about the difference of objects' bases

(2) Talk about not editing every object of the specific kind in the game. (unless intended)

(3) Weapons/NPCs/Armor/Creatures & so on...

[Lesson 4] Scripting Basics

(1) Discuss programming basics

(2) Give links to the functions of the GECK

(3) Create a basic example script.

[Lesson 5] Quests and Dialogue

*I can't do this yet because I'm not 100% sure of all of it myself, so therefore I'm not fit to teach it*

your thoughts? am I missing something?

please do and please speak clearly. No offense to our non American friends here but when you have a thick Russian accent like the video I saw on Bethesdas own link its pretty hard to understand what your saying. Also keep it noob friendly but dont be condescending, nothing ruins tutorials more than being easy to follow then doing something new out of the blue and just expecting everyone to know what your talking about, or being so noob friendly that you come off as a jerk by saying things like "now hit the enter key and that will make it go to the next line" outside of that let us know when you have something because Id really like to learn how to use GECK and I cant learn by reading, I either have to be shown or trial and error which Im afraid Ill ruin something if I do that

well the 1st tutorial is now linked to the actual video. I'm about to attempt to make the 2nd. Let me know how I did :)

EDIT: the 2nd will be much more challenging and in-depth. The 1st is just the most basic (but important) understanding of how to load your own mod properly and how to navigate correctly within the render window.

Does anyone have any comments pertaining to my first video? As well as the order I'd like to do the rest of these tutorials? I would love more feedback so I don't miss anything important (or approach something the wrong way). I intend to finish these tutorials today, so I'd like to see some soon :P Edited by Skibblets

Hmm, I certainly cant fault anything in the tutorial, quite good i guess, although i know the basics of Geck and just need to know how to make the actual quests haha.

waiting for the quest part ;)

The GECK wiki is very helpful for quests. You can certainly build quests with the information found there and by asking questions here in the forums if you get stuck. Here's a link to the quest page there.

Well this is all for today; I have a headache now. Anyways I updated the original post so that the lessons are linked over to the videos. I'm still looking for feedback/constructive criticism too ;)
