Final Fantasy 10 Swords

WOOT if your in any bit willing to make it thatd be great!!! (hopefully you get bored lol) Oh and by the way I don't really mind the other two swords its the blue one I would really like. But to be honest, after what Peregrine said I don't really want to waste any of your time but if you are willing to make the sword heres a greater pic (this pic for some reason was the only one with most detail, its a real life replica- http://www.castingforge.com/finalfantasytidussword.html Im sure you the know the blade's texture-its a watery blue color I think the first image shows this. I would love to see it and I sure hope you have SOME interest in making it other wise don't because like I said I don't want to waste your time :) and I dont care if its not perfect because just making the outline for me was impossible. I use blender, blender has lots of buttons... shiny... so shiny buttons. And theres so many lol.

The problem with using fantasy sword sites for references is that often they take the design and screw it up. Meaning that it doesn't look muck like the original, has details that are wrong, or something else. While most fanboys can't tell the difference, and just want somthing that looks close, the ones which are on sword sites are usually even more rubbish than the game version.

Yea good point. I looked everywhere but as you said its hard to find a good image. Maybe I can take some screen shots from my game lol. But yea that sword does look off, maybe I can try getting some nice ones. Ill continue looking through the sites :) I'm trying to get one that has the actual texture because the sword pretty much is poo without its cool watery blue effect for the blade.

Well, the look of the blade depends how you want it to look, that image shows a powder coat, which doesn't look too bad, but isn't really right for anything other than reality's requirements that the blade be metal. I could probably do either a crystaline effect, where you can partially see through the blade, or make it shiny and smooth, and about any shade of blue, what can't be done is any sort of moving texture.

Wow, you know your stuff! :), if you made it partially see through thatd be cool because that way it has a water effect just like the game, good thing you can do that!!. I kind of already knew it cant move (well to my expierence), thought that it was possible. Cant wait till I'm good at using this whole blender thing. If you made it partially see through then all you would have to do is make it light blue and put some bubbles on it lol( there doesnt have to be bubbles, to be honest I dont really know wat those circles on in the blade are lol). And just curious, have you ever played the game :D? Oh and thanks a lot for putting any type of interest in this. And dont feel as if this has to be rushed as long as I know someone might consider making this sword its nice to know. But is making the mesh simple to you? I've already tried making it, I kinda got the blade right but on the sword below that its wayyy to complicating. One more thing, theres ribbons on the end of the sword, I dont know how you can make that act as something freely moving to the wind or movement in the game, so if its hard then don't worry a bit on putting it on. THANKS :D

This pic is pretty good with the bottom half of the sword. lol too bad the top of the sword had to be in the water hehe.

The only problem with adding those sorts of details is that the blade itself will probably have a high polycount as is. Round edges don't work too well when you only have flat sides to work with. That picture should be good enough for someone to atleast get the handle and texturing worked out. The shot shows enough details like how the top is flat (unlike the remake) and where the sword meets the handle (other area where the remake is wrong).

Oh good, finally I found a pretty good pic. The top half of the sword almost looks the same as the remake pic (not too well though), but if you need any more kind of images to find out how the top half looks, if you consider trying to make it, I can try finding some more. :) And if any detail can't be added thats fine as long as it looks some what like the sword ittl look great. I personally think the sword looks amazingly cool. Oh and I'm not sure if you answered the ribbons question..... would it be hard to make it appear as if its freely moving? Because if it is theres no reason to add it. And if you know how to make something freely moving using blender may you please tell me how or show me a tutorial maybe if you dont make it I can try to. :D (I dont really feel right asking someone to make somthing pretty difficult to make for no benefit to you)

Still need to actually build the top part (right now just splines with thickness to give you a vague idea) and spend more than a few seconds on the blade, but think I'm getting close.

Seems to be good practice for my fabricating skills due to the complexity, while trying to keep the poly count low. Should also be kinda interesting to texture it. Some ingame shots would be nice if you can get them, right now the blade isn't even in a state where I can work on it since I don't know how the tip should look. As for the handle, you can't do any free flowing parts. Right now I was planning on just adding the ring at the end.

WOWWWWWWW THE HANDLES AMAZINGGGGG. HOLY MOTHER.. wow im sooo happy to see that you've tried. Veerrry good work, to be honest I thought the handle (if ever made) would look not so good but that just proved me wrongg. wow thats soo nice!!!! I seriously can't wait to get better at modelling. As for the ring thats perfectly fine! Ill be looking for some greater pics ASAP but if its not too much to say, I want to get some in game shots but I dont kno how.. I have a webcam..... but it would turn out horribly.. But untill my sister gets back from the states with her digital camera I cant do much for in game screeen shots. Unless theres another way.. if only I could play it on my computer I woulda took some great screen shots... but yea im looking for pictures right now I'll try to get more then one to help out. Thankss a lottt!!

I'm not entirely sure that any of these pics can be considered good but if there is one or two that are please tell me which ones so I know what your looking for. I wish I could help further but I'm still not done looking for some great pics , if I ever find a really nice pic I'll post it asap

Basically, anything which shows some fine details, like the first one is good since it shows both the top crest and ridge clearly, as well as showing how the blade is bent. the ff10.jpg is also good since it's a flat (mostly, seems to be tilted slightly with the edge facing the viewer going by the relationships between the various hilt pieces) profile showing the whole weapon. Basically, anything that shows structural details and textures clearly, along with atleast one or two which have the whole weapon are enough to work with.

As for modeling, you start with the flat profile ones to get the overall shape and relation of the various elements straight, then you use the detail ones to refine those elements individually. I'm using splines to get the general shape down, then creating a series ov verticies based on those splines acording to where edges are. Then building the polygons manually from that series of verticies. It's a bit more labor intensive than working from primatives, or just extruding the spline, but it allows me to have better control of poly count as well as the overall look of things. Between the three, I could probably get a close enough idea of how things look.

Oh that sounds really intense I'm sure if you finish the mod off lots of people will like it. The cool part is that I understood that (thanks to blender) and I know how you feel because making a sword like that requires some really good images like you mentioned earlier , and I'm happy supplying any image possible. I'm still continueing to look for images on google (the one time google has failed me). Oh and just curious, are you using 3dMax or Blender? Keep up the great work and thanks again for making this. I'm going to give you one of those kudos.. LOL I just figured out what those were!
