KenaeKirin
Here's a few complaints I have about the current Arena system. 1.) Robots - - Even if you assign a robot to a platform, it will not attack a robot assigned to the opposing color platform. 2.) Creatures - - Creatures cannot be assigned to a platform or commanded through the workshop menu. - Any settler or robot assigned to a platform will become hostile toward tamed creatures. This doesn't seem that bad until you realize that this applies to any tamed creatures you have roaming your settlement. - Creatures provide defense and sometimes happiness bonuses. Having your platformers leave the arena to hunt down roaming tame creatures is frustrating. Some people may actually want their settlement to be completely defended by deathclaws instead of turrets. - Creatures will not attack any creature of the same type. ex: Deathclaws will not attack other deathclaws. - Creatures will automatically attack and attempt to kill almost all other types of creatures. This excludes junkyard dogs (and I'm assuming cats and other normally non-hostile creatures). - Wasteland Whisperer perk tier 3 (and I assume Animal friend tier 3) is not helpful and causes aggro. Attempting to pacify a tamed creature can result in the creature becoming hostile upon failure. If the pacify attempt is successful, they will become hostile if you open the workshop menu. They cannot be assigned. This is true even in the presence of a beta wave emitter. 3.) Clipping issues - - Creatures who are in an enclosed battle arena will often clip out of walls and areas. There is no way to contain them once released from their respective cages. Leaving the area will cause them to spawn in different places. ----------I'm sure Bethesda will release some patches for this. But the current Arena system is needs some serious work done to it. I'm hoping there's some skilled modders out there who can help out. Hopefully our chances will improve after the GECK is released. In order to make the Arena more effective I would like to see... 1.) The ability to command a creature via the workshop and to assign them to a platform. (Restrict it to Wasteland Whisperer 3/Animal Friend 3 to keep it more immersive) 2.) We need to do away with platformers attacking all tamed creatures and creatures attacking different creatures automatically. I think the best way to accomplish this is to have anyone who is assigned to a platform to aggro only those assigned to the opposite color platform. 3.) A means to assign a creature/robot/settler/companion to a platform and to keep them there. Perhaps freeze them in place until something triggers the fight to begin? (Functional battle arena cryo pods? :P) Edited April 16, 2016 by KenaeKirin
Silentdagger
I was thinking very similar things. I saw the setup that Beth had in the stream they did, and I was like "This seems like a very bare-bones system". Heck, the raider/gunner/whatever they captured just attacked them after they let them out of their cage, instead of going through the death maze. The lackluster arena system is the main reason I haven't done anything with it. Don't get me wrong, though I like what they did and I LOVE the new concrete pieces, the arena needs a bit more work.
