Poor performance, nigh unplayable

I'm playing the game on an Asus G73JH (which apparently has a history of poor compatibility with this game),and have been experiencing extremely low framerates, no matter what the settings are. I've tried most, if not all the recommendations on the various forums I've visited, to no avail (including a clean install of 11.6 drivers, the hotfix, defragmenting, etc.). One which I haven't tried is getting the 11.4 drivers. Curiously, whenever I uninstall, reboot, then reinstall the ATI drivers, I experience a BOSD. Could this be related?

Regardless, my specs are:

Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6 GHz (Overclocked to 2.8)

ATI Mobility Radeon HD5870, 1G GDDR5 VRAM

DDR3 1066 6GB RAM

 

Running Windows 7.

If you click start and then control panel there should be an entry for problem reports and solutions if so click that and then click view problem history and then scroll the list until you find Windows - unexpected shutdown .

It may also help to disable antivirus when installing video drivers.

You might also check in the CCC for settings that may have changed to keep the game from playing properly .
