hero4682
hello, when i play oblivion, every so often the game pauses for a few sec's, its now big problem, but it bugs.... i have a plenty of hard drive space, 1 gig of ram, and a nice 256mb video card... anyways i was thinking that if i were to buy another gig of ram maybe that might help? i know oblivion is a demanding game but will the extra ram help or am i screwed because of my video card??? Karasuman
What kind of card is it? There are many cards with 256MB that suck, and some that don't. Some even manage to suck with 512MB. (i.e. x1650PRO 512MB DDR2). Yes, adding another gig of RAM will probably help you eliminate some of the stuttering.

Karasuman
You may be able to increase performance some by adding RAM, but that card will bottleneck you, depending on what processor you have. The x1050 is sufficient for Oblivion with medium settings at lower resolutions. I'm not sure how long ago you bought it for, or for how much, but for the standard asking price of the x1050 I might have suggested the Nvidia 7300GT, which is considerably faster (uses DDR2 RAM vs the 1050's DDR, among other things), and there is one on Newegg going for $36 after rebates ($61 before rebates). This is assuming you have a PCI-E slot. If you don't mind spending a little more, the Geforce 7600GS will obliterate the x1050, and it's still under $100. Moral of the story: I think there's a good chance you'll see better results with a better card rather than by adding more RAM (though both would help). 1 gig of RAM is enough (barely) to play the game without major performance issues. If you're like most of us and you're on a budget, and you could only do one thing right now, I'd spend the money on a faster card. The x1050 is simply not fast enough to show you much of an improvement even if you added more RAM to the system. Hope this helps.
