ILikeMorrowind
I'm wondering if I should let my mage have a minor skill in light armor. Do you think that's not really roleplaying a mage out? Should I just learn it on misc skills and not get exp for it? I'm so filled with questions today.
cmac
The most powerful mages are the Bretons and the Altmer. Becasue they are generally more powerful in magic skills than armour, perhaps it is a good idea to put in Minor skills.
Kirlack
Playing a mage i'd suggest just finding somone who can sell the Fortify Unarmoured spell (anyone who knows where i can find this btw, pls pm me), then go get urself a nice powerful soul gem and create an enchanted belt or something so you dont need armour. Ultimatley though, its ur character, u gotta play it how u want it.....:D
loveme4whoiam
player1>Question answer mode 1  Right. If you want to have a mage with light armour, go for it; i did in my first mage. I had little to nil knowledge of fantasy stereotypes, so if you want to break the mould, go for it. I ended up with a mage in full glass armour B) The mage races (like cmac said, High Elf and Breton) have the best mage skills, and i think that they both come with an Unarmoured skill (maybe only one, i havent got the manual with me, and i cant be bothered to go to UESP :D ) with them, so its really up to you. Secondly, Kirlack, i believe i read someone saying that the Fortify Att... spells are sold only with the Tribunal add-on pack, i forget where. Myself, i've yet to venture into the Trib world (i got there, had my ass royally kicked by Gaenor :angry2: and left.) Wow, that was fun. If i got anything wrong, don't hate me, i'm don't do this all to often and i'm only regurgitating(sp?) knowledge from those wiser than me
Kirlack
All fair comment and agreed on :) I've got Trib, but haven't explored it as much as i should have since i also have BM ILikeMorrowind: another option u might wanna consider is playing as a Nightblade. They have all 4 major schools of magic as Major skills (i think) and Light Armour as a Minor

Arkayan
Do you mean a pure mage? or something like a battle mage or spell sword?
loveme4whoiam
Good point Arkayan. To be a true (READ: stereotypical) mage you should be unarmoured, relying on a staff to hit people with and shield and destruction spells to keep you out of trouble. But most of us like to have a sword or a spear to prod people with when stuff gets hard (ALSO READ:when you run out of magicka). But most people like to be a hybrid, and good luck to them. I've just started playing with a pure fighter, pure mage, and pure thief, to see what the differences arise (see a future thread to see my findings  ) BTW: I know this is OT and has been covered in another thread, but are there any good staves (staffs?) about, apart from Trebonius's (got my backside kicked trying to get that one). Arkayan
If i'm gunna have a magical character i usually play a hybrid, using my magical skills to help out my physical eg summoning creatures to battle with or to practise destruction on. When the creatures hit you it also fortifys your armor skills its a good way to train. I havent really played a true mage i might give that a go.
