thestoryteller01
I have an additional question. High on my list of mods to play is "Summerset Isles" which lists 'becoming Archmage of Winterhold' as a prerequisite. Which of course makes it tempting to reserve the whole Mage Guild questline for a seperate playthrough leading to Summerset Isles. Are there any companions (standalone or from INPCs) that are especially recommandable for this? I don't care much if they offer good combat support but more if they would feel 'in place' with a mage-centered playthrough. My opinion: Cassock, Orc vampire mage and he has one of the most unique quests to complete before he will accompany you.Dagri'lon - he's a real charmer [/sarc].Skjel the Gray who I love to have around just because of some of the crazy stuff he comes up with.Rumarin is actually an Altmer and he has some great dialogue, especially when around other Altmer.Valgus, a soft spoken Restoration trainer.Arghus, is another mage option, though I've never really played much with him. I'm sure there are some female mages too, but I haven't gotten around to their quests yet. The mod really does add a lot of content. Here. ETA: I took Inigo and Rumarin with me when I did the Summerset Isles mod, but to be honest, I take them with me most places so... there's that. Caerulean
Hmm. You ought to read more about the Summerset Isles mod before trying it out. Then again, I do not know what your standards are for a quest mod and it may just as well satisfy you. I also do not know how many other quest mods you have tried/completed already. My honest opinion (without story spoilers, of course): 1. Aesthetics are good, but the lack of purpose to explore takes away from it. Houses are unusual compared to what you'd normally see, but they're basically just huts with one room each. Dungeons/caves are fairly interesting, I guess, though not much else can be said. Not enough lore to be seen around.2. Voice acting is good, but only important characters get enough content to say. The rest have generic dialogue, although custom-voiced (I think, but not all), and will say not much more than repetitive greetings. This makes the word feel empty. The mod is a beautiful painting but lifeless, so to speak.3. The encouraged method of travel is teleportation via a central NPC. Not my cup of tea as it feels just like fast-travelling without the time progression, I think. Feels just like in MMORPGs as well where NPCs would teleport you to places. :3 The teleportation preference is also used as a rationale to people being absent outside settlements.4. CTDs can happen a lot. Be sure to do your load order and other technical stuff properly. Hasn't seen an update for some months now. Hopefully not abandoned; I'd check more into its progress.5. The story may or may not feel shallow. :3 I would abstain from playing this mod until it gets more updates, unless you are bored or have time to spend. I honestly haven't finished playing through this mod as I found vanilla Skyrim to be more interesting, and also started a new playthrough, (and then I got into making mods soon after. lol)
thestoryteller01
Just FYI, I have decided with what to start. For now I shy away from INPCs because to fully utilize and enjoy the mod I think I need a complete playthrough inlucing the MQ and I have to carefully consider all the other mods I'll be using. So after a long deliberation I'll start with "Rigmor of Bruma". What I found most appealing is that this companion quest mod is set before the civil war so I can easily dodge the MQ quest until her story has finished. After that I'll probably start the MQ+INPCs with Rigmor being the housecarl of my home (depending on how the story develops). Thanks again for all the recommendations! Shivala
3DNPCs doesnt need the main quest. I have it installed so long that I cant remember which NPCs are vanilla or not. Some NPCs just talk with you at the bar, its great. I found Amalee fitting to your search, she has an amazing Quest she will take you on! But other iNPCs have cool quests as well. Thanks for recommending Amalee. Regarding the MQ, it's just that I plan to avoid the MQ completely for the quest mods, because I only want to play it once. And INPC offers so many characters all over the map, that I think it's a good idea to reserve it for the one big MQ playthrough (to which I wont bring any other companion mods). Muerdren
Check out Rigmor of Bruma mod on nexus. It's a follower mod with a huge quest line that is all about her and not you.
kevkiev
Just a quick other opinion on Summerset Isles. I've spent a lot of time on that mod lately (I'd guess 30+ hours) and absolutely love it. I've never understood the criticisms about the teleport system. It's like fast traveling in Skyrim - you don't have to use it if you don't want to. (Except, yeah, at certain locations you have to teleport from one part of a location to another. For example there are other lands, or locations floating above the environment, that can only be reached via teleport.) In fact, there's lots of caves etc to discover that you'll never find if you just teleport. There's a patch to use convenient horses on Summerset, and I use that so me & Serana can gallop around together. On the stability side of things, I have yet to experience a single CTD or freeze while playing that mod. (I run about 140 plug-in mods, and about 400 mods in total.)
