dazedcoffeecup
I recently contracted a virus called "AXEL.DAV"a virus that infects your files and eventually deletes themand have successfully deleted it but, by doing this i also had to do a system recovery (F10 on windows start-up) I reinstalled Oblivionand tried to load one of my characters After i click on the Save file i wish to use, it goes to a loading screenand a few seconds later, it crashes to desktop I read off google that deleting the Autosave.ess and renaming autosave.bak to autosave.ess would help itI tried to no avail I can create a new character, and play as normallyand I do use player-made mods if that helps I'm also guessing maybe my Shivering Isles has been modified due to AXEL.DAV and maybe since it's either lost/corrupted maybe my saves with them do not work?Is reinstalling Shivering Isles going to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Karasuman
"Is reinstalling Shivering Isles going to fix this?" Not likely. You can try, but I doubt it. Unfortunately, I would imagine those saves are dead, especially if you suspect the virus modified any of your game files prior to doing a Sys Restore. How many hours do you have on the save file you attempted to load?
dazedcoffeecup
I played a new save for about an hour and realized that some things weren't functioning properly Example) After killing Mythic Dawn in the church saving the prior guy a graphics glitch occured and red spewed everywhere2) Walking into the bar meeting martin resulted in a huge display of random colors3)Exiting certain shops leaves me with a black screen with either a looping sound or not which requires either a poweroff or waiting for a while (5 minutes) oblivion makes me sad now :[ and to answer your question, i had one file with 95 hoursand the other with 91 hoursand a couple others under 40 it's awfully sad thinking about how much time i put into this game and it all went downhill... i don't know if i can ever fix it
tsolless
Yeah I had this happen to me, except it was because of my own stupidity. Good luck. Also, now I keep a backup of save files on my Mp3 so even if my computer blows up I can still know that I have the files safely in my Mp3. Thanks Sansa e260! </advertisement> But seriously it's a good idea to keep backups.
