Recommended economy mods

To begin with, I’ll have to admit that I’m a huge fan of the idea that 200 years after the atomic apocalypse knowledge and capability for industrial mass production of anything is gone. Therefore I fell in love with a compilation of mods published under the name “Fallout Wanders Edition”. In a word, my main objective in Fallout 3 was simply survival. So, I found myself playing Fallout: New Vegas a little differently as New Vegas is very different from the capital wasteland.

As New Vegas wasn’t hit by the bombs at all and due to the totally different economic situation I was quickly swimming in bottle caps. I then began looking for something that would make my economic situation more interesting and challenging.

So, I’ve recenly discovered some interesting mods that I’d like to hear your opinion of since I pretty much enjoyed them. The mods can be differentiated into the categories

1. Traders

2. Finances

3. Business

1. Traders

I’ve installed two mods that satisfy my needs just fine.

Rivens Goodsprings Vendor_Plus Mannequins is, as the name says, a vendor in Goodsprings, not too far from where you start. The vendor doesn’t have that many caps but offers quite a selection to choose from. This means you can actually arrive there with all the stuff you’ve looted and can leave with something nice. Everyone who is fed up with travelling from one merchant to another should definitely check this mod out. Plus: It’s quite a nice setting to hang around.

Another vendor mod is Expansion Vendors that introduces several new merchants to the Mojave. Two highlights: First, a merchant in Primm who sells a lot of weapon modifications I was missing everywhere else. Second, a trader at the 188 that sells food ingredients for people like me who recently discovered their passion for cooking because of a newfound companion and bff.

2. Finances

For everyone who wants to improve his or her financial situation but still wants to keep it simple Bank Card might be something worth checking out. You can get a loan, get interest on your savings and even convert other fraction’s money.

An updated script version that I have not tried is available, too:

Anyone who would like to see a really complex financial simulation New Vegas Trade Center is the mod of choice. By the way, New Vegas Trade Center is a candidate in the ‘File of the Month’-competition right now.

Finally, I’d like to talk about the last area.

3. Building business

As said before it is easy to make money in Fallout: New Vegas. So I was wondering what I could do with all the money besides buying weapon modifications. Why not investing it in something that would eventually even generate some income? I found three possibilities:

In 00 Red Cross if you don't like cooking, you can get rid of all your food by donating it and do something good by helping to build up a charity organization. Even more important, the mod let's you rebuild a telecommunication company, my first very own firm.

If you install The New Bison Steve Hotel and Lucky Casino you can help rebuild the old casino in Primm step by step and get your share. Best played as a side quest, as most quest objectives take you to places that you would visit anyway.

Everyone who is eager to manage a casino by him- or herself may try to Run The Lucky 38. I have to admit this mod truly made me feel like a boss.

That’s it. What do you think? And do you know any interesting economy mods?

P.s.: If you finally find yourself in dire need of more bottlecaps and would like to take advantage of New Vegas unique possibilities Casino UnBanner might interest you. (I’ve personally not tested it yet.) But as another user wrote in that mods discussion:

“This is awesome, now i can earn caps without having to lug around a bunch of crap i steal off the people i kill so i dont wind up having to fast travel to a shop every 5 minutes to unload a bunch of crap, i can earn my money without constant traveling now, thank you.”

P.p.s.: Hater’s gonna hate: Fallout 3 is way better than Fallout: New Vegas.

I have seen a couple of mods that tried to balance the economy by changing the values of raw materials and created items.

But I think the best suggestion I heard was someone asked about a Tanner Shop mod, sometime within the last month. A place that you could get a steady supply of turpentine. That, combined with plenty of Geckos respawning, and White Horsenettle respawning, you could make a decent amount of profit if you had a high survival skill.

Also, I'm know I saw a banking mod released recently. Maybe it was in the list you mentioned.

To me, personally, besides weapon mods, implants and more ammo, the thing I'd like to buy would be a ranch that I could operate, and even hire some ranchhands and a foreman to run it while I'm gone. Then have to fight off wild animals, rustlers, evil NCR brahmin barons, etc., etc., And you'd have to pay the upkeep for everything, the livestock, maintenance and of course workers wages.

My friend is actually the one who made the Expansion Vendors mod... so I'm sure he'll be glad to hear when I let him know someone recommended it as a good mod to help improve the New Vegas economy. That was really a big part of what inspired him to make these new vendors... nobody sells the things you need, and none of the vanilla merchants really -specialize-.

The most specialized traders you get are the guys running a bar or restaurant, who only sell food and drinks.

He -does- plan on adding more merchants... as well as adding compatibility for other great mods such as WME/WMX... so anyone who is interested in it... be sure to keep your eyes open. In the meanwhile, I'll go prod him and try to get him back to work. Maybe once my own mod "Presenting: The Gunsmith" is finally completed, I'll see if he might be interested in having some of his vendors sell the manufacturing bits required to construct weapons and armor.

Anyways, overall... I really like your list. In fact, I already use more than half the mods on it!

Folks who're itching to see the Fallout universe as it struggles to rebuild should be very interested in the mods you have listed here. New Vegas Trade Center is amazingly in-depth and intriguing. 00 Red Cross, Run the Lucky 38, and The New Bison Steve and Lucky Casino are all excellent choices if you're just dying to get in on the business scene. They let you really feel like you -own- something in the Mojave Wasteland... something that gives back, rather than just sits there looking post-apocalyptic.

But don't take my word for it... and don't take the word of Milemarker here... go check some of these mods out, already!

And if you have more, you should probably add them here to the list.

@Philosophiac: Thank you for posting.

@OriginOFPain: Thank you. No, I didn’t know about that mod. In fact, I’m not very good at gambling. I only got banned once. Sure, I know how to play slots because you cannot really do something wrong there. It mainly depends on your luck which by the way can be improved with a suit found in the Lucky 38 hotel or something the doctor in the Trade center sells.

Blackjack also works just fine.

Roulette is already something different.

And I still don’t know how to play caravan.

Oh, I almost forgot something that just came out and I still have to try out:

The Mall

I saw the Mall recently too. If you're not good at gambling, try the Tops Casino. The player has the highest luck there according to the New Vegas Wiki. I strictly stick to only playing Blackjack and I have never played a single hand of Caravan in the hundreds of hours I've played this game. Blackjack is the only form of gambling I have a grasp on.

Okay, last round from me.

- For earning money -

If you are tired of all the violence and want to earn some caps, you can consider getting your old job back: Express Delivery. I know it's seemingly less exciting than killing a whole bunch of people, but this mod is fully voiced honest work.

Express Delivery

- For spending money -

I also found two small shops.

A small neatly made diner in Freeside:

Freeside Food and Supplies Store

And a gift shop on the strip, that sells unique tourist gifts:

Cold Deck Gift Shop_Strip Edition

Alternative location at Camp Mccarran

Then, there is an supposedly abandoned project:

Super Duper Mart

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39117

And in case you need medicine and drugs you could consider paying the Methclaw a visit. I bought a bunch of things from it just to donate it to the Followers:

Thanks for reading!
