MathiusKain
I'd love to see a Skyrim mod that simply includes an NPC who tells you "what to do next", so to speak. Skyrim is one of the most open-ended games I've ever played, and there's really no "right way" to play it or "right order" to do things. That being said, that often puts gamers in a situation where they just don't know what the heck to do next. It would be awesome to have some sort of "dispatcher", so to speak, who tells you what to do. That's not to say that you would be required to follow them to a tee, but to give you direction in times when you can't decide what direction to go in. The Dragonborn Gallery museum mod completely changed the way I play Skyrim, and I would love something like this in conjunction with that. YukiNoOkami
Are we talking an Oracle-like character or more of a rogue gossiper who hears whispers of everything? Either way, you're going to have a lot of dialogue written/recorded for this.
MathiusKain
Are we talking an Oracle-like character or more of a rogue gossiper who hears whispers of everything? Either way, you're going to have a lot of dialogue written/recorded for this. I suppose I wouldn't personally have a bias one way or another on how the figure was presented to us - both of the options you mentioned would be relatively lore-friendly, though I guess I would be more attracted to an oracle-type figure. To your comment, you make a good point, but even a mod of this nature that presented objectives to you in a broader sense would be sufficient to fulfill the play-style I'm imagining. For example, this character might task you with venturing to a hold and becoming its thane, giving you a list of names of people you should speak to and obtain quests from to meet that end - rather than sending you on each quest individually. Another example - this guide, were it an oracle, might simply tell you "I have foreseen a great magical disturbance in Skyrim with you at its center. Go now to the College of Winterhold and do not return to me until you are Archmage." The author might even allow the player to select from a range of categories by asking "What are your ambitions, Dragonborn?" and allowing them to answer "Story Quests (as in the guilds, colleges, main questline, dlc, etc)", "Daedric Artifacts", "Thaneship", "Misc Quests", etc... There is a mod called SkyComplete that allows you to track your quest progress that I just remembered as I wrote this. This character could serve a similar purpose, but force you to complete certain objectives before continuing to the next (ensuring that you don't miss any quests by having you complete groups of them at a time). (SkyComplete) https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/60445/? The idea is a lot more clear and simple in my mind than I imagine it would be if I had the development knowledge needed to put something like this together. I imagine it would be very difficult to implement this without the high likelihood of bugs occurring, but I've seen much bigger projects.
