Merkaba777
Hi all, I searched the forums for an answer to this but to no avail. I tried to install OBSE, followed the instructions putting all the .dll files in the Oblivion directory with the original launcher exe and tried to run Oblivion using the obse_loader.exe executable. It tells me my game version is unrecognizable. I downloaded my game via Direct2Drive, and I noticed many games from there need special patches. Just want to confirm the D2D version is the cause for my woes on installing OBSE. Thanks, -Merk
KawiRider
Yeah, OBSE is incompatible with the D2D version of Oblivion. Sorry. :(
Vagrant0
Yeah, OBSE is incompatible with the D2D version of Oblivion. Sorry. :(And it isn't likely to change. The D2D version has additional coding to prevent significant alterations to the game in order to stop people from pirating it. Since OBSE requires these alterations to be made to the game to function, it can't be done. Yet another reason why D2D is never a good idea. Even if you live in the middle of nowhere, you're still best off ordering it online, paying an arm and a leg for shipping, and waiting a week or two for it to be delivered. D2D was meant to provide a legal alternative to some of the illegal methods of downloading games, not as an alternative to buying the physical game. Should never download anything, music, games, movies, even if you pay for it. Downloading means not having a physical copy you can keep installing from should you ever have to reinstall, or lose your i-pod/phone.

This is the second game I downloaded from D2D (X3 Reunion being the other) and I've had nothing but problems with mods. Live and learn I guess. Funny that most of the games they offer have mods available, yet I've scene very little to warn in this respect. Hell, one of the reasons I got Oblivion was for the modding capabilities. Guess I have to go to the store to get my games instead of being lazy and downloading them. Maybe D2D will give me a refund (yeah right, lol). Thanks for the confirmation, though. I like Obilivion enough that I'll walk over to GameStop and buy it. If only I wasn't so lazy to begin with, lol. -Merk
Vagrant0
Just because you can't use OBSE doesn't mean that you can't mod. Quite honestly, I don't see much benefit to using it. I personally don't use it, not because of any software limitations, I just havn't had any reason to use anything that it allows. Despite the fact that I tend to do some rather unusual scripting, and heavy modding. Additionally, some OBSE mods can really screw over your game, often because they were made by people who don't know how to use functions properly. So you can't have deadly reflexes, thieves arsenal, and the few others that actually seem cool, big deal. There are plenty of great mods out there that don't need OBSE, and actually add to the game. Before you go thinking about handing more money to Bethsoft, take a look around and see what you can do with what you have.
