king_snooty
Hi all, I have looked for answers to this but can't really find any although lots of people seem to ask similar questions. I have two saves that are crashing to the desktop during loading. They are both only 5 mins apart and are after about 25 hours of game time. I have tried renaming the .bak file to .ess and that doesn't seem to work (although I dodn't get the warning message that is mentioned in the sticky). My older saves work fine. I have no mods installed. Faulting application oblivion.exe, version 1.2.0.416, faulting module oblivion.exe, version 1.2.0.416, fault address 0x0012d448. Do I need to provide more info? My character was doing brilliantly and I had done all the tedious early bits so I really don't wanna give up on the saves! Any help is much appreciated. Karasuman
Unfortunately, if you've tried repairing the save with the above method and it didn't work, there probably isn't a whole lot that can be done to salvage it from that point. That seems to be how Oblivion works in general. It doesn't corrupt saves often, but when it does, it always seems to pick the worst possible time, such as after completing a bunch of tedious stuff as you mentioned. Once, I had taken my Conjuration from 40 to 80 or 90, and shortly thereafter, that save became corrupted. Since then, I've learned to always keep a good 5 or 6 saves within a few minutes of each other to ensure that doesn't happen again. I realize that doesn't help you fix the current saves, but rather, it's preventive maintenance for the future (if the broken saves don't make you want to quit playing, that is lol).
