April 28 FO4 1.5.157.0m NMM worked liked a charm

I was indeed using an UI mod, but it didn't toucht the pip boy. Only the normal UI, such as HP and AP bars. However, even after removing all mods completely and even after I tried to start a new game, the game crashed, which led me to the conclusion, that I can download those 25 GB again and make a fresh install... (which takes some time with a 16 Mbit connection -.-)

But thank's for the advice anyway, I will keep that in mind if I have similar issues in the future :D (why can't we choose if we want to patch the game anyway? T.T)

I just did some experiments to confirm my previous comments.

Installed DEF_UI without it's update.

The game indeed CTD after selecting which save game to load.

Added the DEF_UI update and retried and the game loaded fine.

2nd experiment, removed data\interface directory entirely, loaded the game and each saved game works fine.

So the FO4 update does indeed effect the UI mods out there. Look for updates for any UI mods you have.

To your comment about why can't you choose if you want a patch, I might suggest my playstyle -- Disconnect your internet before starting the game. Steam will load in offline mode, the game will launch and you won't be effected by any patches or updates unless you choose to connect steam to the Internet. It works for me. I can relate to slow internet issues  My connection isn't considered actual broadband.

Concerning the achievements, not that it's a big issue, but do the mods still block the aquisiton of steam achievement with the new update ? I was playing with the 1.4 until now and I just saw that my save turned to [M]savename.

Looks like achievements are still blocked with mods activated. I just tried it out with the Trapper achievement, which I hadn't got yet. Loaded a save with mods activated, made one of each cage type - no achievement. Deactivated all my mods, loaded the same save, made the cages - achievement unlocked.

I still have about 5 achievements to unlock, but I don't care enough about them to play the game without mods.

Exactly! Very easy transition! Now just waiting on Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE) to update and everything will be good in the world again. LOL!

Am using the F4SE version they have up on their site for the F04 beta (which is now an official release) and it loads fine for me.

"Fallout 4 beta runtime 1.5.157 Beta build: 0.1.13 7z archive Compatible with 1.5.157 release of Fallout 4."

http://f4se.silverlock.org/

I tried that version of F4SE, doesn't work for me. At least, I can't launch via the F4SE loader.

When right click and scroll down to properties on f4se_loader.exe, then looking at the details tab, it shows product version 0.0.1.13, 145 kb in size date modified 04/26/2016 7:21 PM.

I downloaded this today after the FO4 update from http://f4se.silverlock.org/, from their page it was listed as " Fallout 4 beta runtime 1.5.157 Beta build: 0.1.13 7z archive Compatible with 1.5.157 release of Fallout 4."

I do start f4se_loader.exe in administrative mode by right clicking, selecting run as administrator.

(easier to just set it to run from the compatibility tab, change settings for all users, and by clicking on the bottom check box for "Run this program as an administrator", then it always opens as admin.)

Sometimes, not always the game will stop loading give a black screen and vanish. If I run f4se_loader.exe a second time it "usually" but not always loads the game. Not sure why, just letting you know how it functions on my end.

Hope this in some way helps

Load your game and quickly go to the in game settings and see if it has the F4SE version number at the bottom right of the settings box, plus if you are loading a lot of mods look at the audio name and see if it's still loading that, once it's finished then try loading a game or starting a new one, I always wait until all the audio is loaded then put in tgm and pcb in the console and start playing...I use got mode when I'm using mods that make the game more challenging and pcb, well sometimes that helps in game, doing pcb, purge cell buffers...

Always load twice when loading with F4SE, once to get into the pop up menu then close that and load F4SE again when steam is still open and it should load right up...

What does purging the cell buffers do? Sounds like it helps reduce what's in memory but would like to actually understand what it does.

Concerning the achievements, not that it's a big issue, but do the mods still block the aquisiton of steam achievement with the new update ? I was playing with the 1.4 until now and I just saw that my save turned to [M]savename.

is there a way to get achievements working again??

I just use a fallout 4 patch and some re-texture

Looks like achievements are still blocked with mods activated. I just tried it out with the Trapper achievement, which I hadn't got yet. Loaded a save with mods activated, made one of each cage type - no achievement. Deactivated all my mods, loaded the same save, made the cages - achievement unlocked.

I still have about 5 achievements to unlock, but I don't care enough about them to play the game without mods.

Achievements mod to allow modded achievements:

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12465/?

Don't know if it works or not, I haven't hit an achievement with it installed yet.

So wait, they ALSO blocked any achievement progress when you run any mods at all? ... What kind of completely ass-backwards treatment is this? Bethesda brings "mods to the masses" then figures they are "cheats" so then no achievement progress on otherwise mundane things in this game? What a plate of fail, smh. :(
