KaraOmen
[i decided to put this here rather than the actual Undertale forum, since my question is directed towards every modders who thinks they might know something about the issue.] ... Well, not really an "issue" per se. I'll just get straight to the point and ask: As a fairly experienced modder, how hard would you say modding Undertale is?I might as well do everybody involved a favour and say, I am no modders and have absolutely no idea or experience in modding games, in any way shape or form. Therefore I have no idea whether modding follows the same process as "cheating". I imagine it might do, changing something in the game's "code" for the lack of a better term, in order to make gameplay either more diverse and challenging or enriching etc (modding), or just plain easy (cheating). The reason why I bring that up is that in Undertale cheating is a bit of a ... interesting experience. As far as I know, the game has a few safeguards against it, also telling the player that it knows they tried to bend the rules. Concerning the Genocide Ending, which causes permanent changes to every future playthrough, there is an ongoing debate whether or not those can be reversed. Some people say "you can just edit the save files" others say "no, doesn't work" and then there's about five other groups who claim it's possible, but that you have to do something different from what other people may say. Needless to say, I can't distinguish between what's possible or complete nonsense, and so I've decided to ask people with actual experience. So now that you know my situation, let's get back to the question: do you think modding Undertale is possible, and if yes, how hard would it be for an average modder? And just to clarify, the kind of mods I'm talking about are "alternate storyline" mods, amongst others. There are a few sound and minor graphic changes mods, but what about mods that tweak dialogue, bring characters to different settings, and give you choices that have impact on future gameplay like in the original game? That would be all, thank you very much for reading.
bben46
There is a reason we separate the forum for each game from the SITE feedback. That reason is to avoid the chaos that would result if we let anyone put posts from 270 games all into the same forum instead of in the forums for their specific game. I doubt that many Undertale modders even look at the site feedback unless they have a specific reason. I am not familiar with Undertale or what is involved in modding it. Modding for every game is different, and some are more difficult than others. Mods we host here are all intended for single player games, so how people think they are cheating is beyond me - who are they cheating? Based on what I have seen we don't have many Undertale modders here, so it may take a while for them to see your question even if it was in the right place.Currently, we have exactly 1 file for Undertale out of a total of 139,716 files for other games. Hopefully the Undertale section will pick up some traffic as more people in that community learn about Nexus.
KaraOmen
Alright, thanks for the info. I can see how posting game-related threads in the feedback area could be a bit if a bother, so don't worry, not gonna happen again. As for the cheating... I don't know. There's really no point to it in a single player game. Well, Underdale has a single point at which game files can be modified to skip an enemy. Incidentally, that one happens to be the toughest one in the game and is not getting tracked by the player's stats and kill-count. So yeah, I can understand wanting to skip an enemy some people spend seven hours trying to beat, but other than that, cheating seems like pretty much screwing yourself over.
