TRCrazyHawk
Hi Guys. I tried to mod NV and failed. The mod was downloaded from this site and from what i read i needed to use a program called ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated, also downloaded from this site. when trying to figure this program out, i accidentally told it to do the .EXE and not the mod. Now the game will only bring up the launcher and will not actually play the game. So I tried to delete the game and reinstall. Didn't work. The game always reinstall to the way it was after i messed it up. I tried to manually delete every file and Reg listing to do with NV. I'm a computer tech and can usually figure these things out, but this one has me dumbfounded. Please help. I just want to be able to reinstall the game as if i just bought it. I know there has to be a .config file hiding somewhere. I think it is hiding somewhere in steams files or reg, but have not been able to find it. Ive also tried going to Bethesda and steam, but to no avail. Steam also detects a file that doesn't Validate and tries to re-download it. The game still doesn't want to launch. PowderdToastMan
first off, go to documents/my games/falloutNV - and make sure you delete the files in there. Then go to you control panel and click on - uninstall program - and look for fallout new vegas. hilight, then right click to uninstall and it should completley uninstall it from your pc. then do a clean install also, go to your steam/steamapps/common/falloutnewvegas folder and make sure and remove all of your mod files. when you uninstall, it will not remove mod files. TRCrazyHawk
Thanks for your response. Ive don and double checked all the files you named. The game still installs the same. never clean. there has to be a config file somewhere that tells the game how to set up the install. id hate to have to reinstall windows just to install this game. PowderdToastMan
you can also go to the uninstall section of your control panel and if you right click on steam, it will give you the option to repair it. I had a similar issue the other day with a bad install, and it turned out my steam diddnt properly refresh the fact that i had uninstalled it due to some corrupted files and after i refreshed steam, i re-uninstalled and then re-installed and it worked. also, i dont know if you are getting any error messages, but if you go to your search bar on your start menu and type "msconfig" and hit enter, then go to the services tab, and then click the check box at the bottom left that says - hide all microsoft services; this will show all background programs running that might prevent a proper install; things like funky antivirus software can do that. edit* also, you said the program you installed for archive was an exe, and if it installed make sure and uninstall it also in your control panel Edited July 14, 2011 by PowderdToastMan
