How do I check my current version level

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, I recently picked up Fallout 3 GOTY edition and just got stuck in. Now I'm noticing weird bugs, seems that reporting bugs is nothing new to Fallout 3 from what I have seen. I'd like to know: "How do I check my current version level ?" and "What is the current most stable version?".

I'm running vanilla Fallout 3 GOTY edition. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit with a decent spec computer (see profile). The bugs I have:

- Sometimes when reloading a game and I'm inside a building it will freeze.

- Sometimes entering a building it will freeze.

- Sometimes VATs will just freeze.

- Enemies are under the ground, I can only see portions of them sticking up through the ground. Or they are tilted and facing skywards and running round. I once snicked up to two super mutants, hit them with a missile launcher, they fell off the wall into the water. One was treading water in the wall, the other was underground.

Are these common?

Thanks

Jingo

I'm guessing you may need to look at the .ini fix for running FO3 w/ Win 7 and more than 2 cores.

Mine was freezing and then got an error and no choice but to close before I did this fix.

The game engine has some issues with processors that have more than 2 cores.

Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3

Find the line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

change it to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add another line after it and insert:

iNumHWThreads=2

This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.

Graphical anomalies seems to be in most Bethesda rpgs in one way or another.

I would suggest getting the unofficial patches and see if that helps. I hardly encounter anything extreme like you mention but dead enemies do have some weird twitching in the water.

Thanks for the advice, I'd wouldn't have know to check that. I've changed ini files before for other games to get them stable.

I'll also update my graphics driver.

I also get the enemy bodies bouncing around, I've had it where I've returned to an area days later and Mirelurks are still twitching away.

does this also need to be done for FNV? i've not played FNV for any decent amount of time since upgrading to a i7 recently (using win7 x64), except for quickly testing mods, so can't tell if the same problem exists for that, as i've only just got F3 GOTY and been playing that but attributing the crashes to iffy mods but if its this thats the problem, then WOO!
