MizterMoonshine
About 4 months ago I got a pretty bad virus, it was playing audio ads and sending out 'rude' emails to everyone using the Internet network I'm on (I don't know how to explain it better sorry) but that's only the back story to my problem. I managed to get rid of the symptoms but it kept coming back so I hired a professional to come look at it and he said he permanently got rid of the symptoms but the virus is still there, not doing anything (nerfed you could say). He also said it was one of the worst viruses he had ever seen. I was running Fallout 3 perfectly fine on medium-high settings before I got the virus but after I got the virus nerfed, Fallout 3 randomly closes without errors. As in I can open it up and do the tutorial. But as soon as I step outside into the wasteland I can run around for about 10 seconds before it just closes by itself without errors, as if I had hit the 'Exit' button. I borrowed Fallout New Vegas off my friend too see if the problem was on it too because New Vegas and Fallout 3 are practically the same, and I have the exact same problem. I'm fine in interior cells but when I go to the wasteland I can do whatever for 10 seconds and bam it closes. I can only assume it's the virus that is still there that is causing this to happen. If it helps the programs I used personally to get rid of the virus were Malwarebytes and Combofix, the usual stuff. I tried to system restore but I get an error halfway through and it says the restore couldn't be completed. I'm also running Windows XP. Please help, I've scoured the entire Internet looking for help. /v/ and /g/ on 4chan, a few gaming websites, Yahoo answers, the general Internet... nothing. I'm the only one who seems to have this problem. You're my last hope! (I was directed here on /v/)
Jeoshua
Sounds like the virus is either still in memory somewhere and you didn't get it all gone, or somewhere in removal the scanner determined that fallout3.exe had been infected and removed a part of it that it shouldn't have. Don't mess with MBAM, go get rkill.com. It works much better. We're not your best choice. Go somewhere that deals specifically with virus removal and talk to them. They'll tell you to get hijackthis from Trend Micro.
MizterMoonshine
I have Fallout 3 on Steam so I deleted F3 and reinstalled it but that didn't work. Thanks anyway, I'll try what you suggested.
