Crashes

Recommended Posts

Hello again, forum-goers. I've had some issues with crashes that basically make Oblivion unplayable.

I was told that a complete uninstall and reinstall would work. They did not. At start-up, a crash to desktop happens every time, right after the Bethesda thing disappears and the Oblivion theme song kicks in. This is the whole "Oblivion has stopped working" garbage that plagues all, if not most of us from time to time.

I deleted data from mods, but the problems persist. Other instructions for "Reverting to a vanilla save" haven't worked either.

Essentially, I'm getting into Oblivion after a while. I'm not looking for tons of mods to work (in fact, I just kinda want the vanilla game while retaining the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine). I don't really care for save games I've had in the past. If I can get it to work, will I need the second disc from game of the year (which I seem to have misplaced) to use Shivering Isles/Knights of the Nine? Also, at one point in the past I downloaded OBMM, but never used it. Not sure if that would cause any conflict, but it doesn't hurt to mention it, does it?

The help I've gotten in the past from this forum was incredible. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time. :D

If you are running Oblivion on Windows 7 or Windows Vista, this type of crash can be caused by UAC interference.
