desnosferatu
I cannot for the life of me figure this out, and I'm sure it's probably something simple I can't put my finger on. I've been trying to make new weapons in Nifskope. Simple stuff like taking the g3assaultrifle and adding the silencer from the 10mm silenced pistol and saving it as g3assaultriflesilenced. All my textures and meshes are unpacked in the data folder so I can see everything when I line up the silencer. No problem. Now, I open G.E.C.K and edit the base of the assaultrifle, changing the ID to something different and naming it Assault Rifle Silenced. When I go to the Art and Sound tab to change the model, I click on edit and see the normal plain assault rifle then select my g3assaultriflesilenced but the picture comes up as the red square with white exclamation point. I can't pinpoint what I'm doing wrong. Watched several youtube vids and read a bunch of forums and tutorials about doing what I'm trying to do, but nobody ever has the red square problem. Their nifskope created weapons just show up no problem. Any help would be really appreciated.
desnosferatu
Update: Okay, 1 problem solved, another presented. Turns out I was saving the files to a meshes folder not in the data folder of fallout 3. Changed that and now models will accept the new .nif but when I try to edit the 1st person .nif, it deletes the new form I created. If I set 1st person view .nif as the new weapon, when I click on the weapon to change things and rename the ID, I click on create a new form, but ti doesn't show up in the list. I can create a new form and change the attributes and .nif of the model, but when I try to change the 1st person .nif, it deletes the form I created. Any ideas? I searched the forums as best as I could and didn't find anything like this, but if all this stuff is answered somewhere else, even just a link would be appreciated. Thanks. quicksilverva
youre trying to create a world model or 1st Person model? try creating a new form using the same model, but as a static object, not as a weapon. see if that helps you out
desnosferatu
First off, thanks for the reply. I'm trying to create a first person model...I think. The tutorial I followed instructed to open geck, type in 1stperson, then go to "All". Under the All section, find the weapon I want to change and open it. Change the ID, and change the model to the new .nif file with the silencer and scope. Then go to weapons, open the weapon I want to change and go through the motions ( change sounds, enable silent, enable scope, change model ID). And change the model to new .nif with the scope and silencer. Once all that is done and I click OK to create the new form, it doesn't create a new form. NOTE: If I don't change the 1stperson model .nif, I can add my weapon to the game with all the effects I want, but not the look. ( I can use a scope, and the bullets are silenced, but there is no silencer or scope visible on the rifle). Laying on the ground, the weapon has the CORRECT look with silencer and scope. Just not in my hands. So, I should open the static menu and find the weapon I want to change and go through the editing in there instead of from the weapon section? I unfortunately don't have my laptop on me at the moment, but from the static menu will I be editing the 1st person model (changing .nif and ID), or the base where I change sounds, damage and so on? Thanks again.
quicksilverva
going through the static menu creates the static model, not the weapon itself. the same static model can be used for both the 1st Person and World models, though neither are necessary as it will show in game as it is. when you create your new weapon form, itll be put in its own submenu under Items -> Weapon (ie: your mesh folder name). desnosferatu
Creating as a static object worked fine. Changed the .nif and created a new static object, then created a new form weapon and changed 1st person .nif and everything else. Showed up in game looking like it should from on the ground view, and while in use. Thank you very much. That was giving me a headache for some time now.
