What is your preferred workflow for modding?

I am currently in a bit of a pickle.

 

My Apollo Laser pistol is all done, model is fairly good (no missing bits), the materials are all there (Metal Barrel, Glass windows, Glowy bits, the works.)

 

Now I just have to texture it and get into the game.

 

My pickle you see.

 

So I would like to know how you guys have done it, what programs you used for texturing, how you did the UV mapping, stuff like that.

 

I don't want a in-depth process though, I just want to see which programs you used and what order.

 

Lay it on me.
