DTox23
My first topic :D yeeeyI have only played Fallout 3 and now New Vegas. I couldn't help noticing this 50 or 60's theme in both games so I was wondering whats up with that. Gameplay is set in the 'far' future but some things like cars, food ect. are stuck in 50's. micalov
Fallout universe has always been set in a future the 1950's imagined, so looks straight out of a classic scifi B movie.
DTox23
That explains a lot
Odile
Well, and also atomic warfare tends to put a damper on things like..social trends. So the Fallout universe hit its version of the 50s and then stopped because everyone was dead or hiding out underground.
Dan3345
honestly I tend to facepalm when seeing these topics, but I forgive you for your ignorance :P But as the above posters said fallout is a futuristic retro themed game. You can think of it like the 50's of our time didn't happen then it was delayed until 2040's of the fallout universe. And of course less than thirty years later China would invade Alaska and get pushed out, then we would invade the eastern coast's of China pushing forward to Beijing. With nowhere to go the Chinese now desperate for breathing room and oil fired their nuclear arsenal. Really a fascinating story IMO.
DTox23
Yeah, you can forgive me :D. I am still pretty new at this and don't know the entire story so don't be surprised to see more of face-palming topics

The Fallout universe hit the 50s, then... continued being 1950s-styled for the next 110 years. The nuclear apocalypse didn't happen until 2070... Dan3345
@TheTalkieToaster No he means that they had other social trends leading up to the day the bombs fell, but of course by that time the world had ended, and the survivors did not give a damn about social trends. If any of you have fallout 3 installed still i highly suggest finding Greta's lover in underworld and talking to her. She is a pre war ghoul and can tell you what it was like. She was born in 2051. I wish there were more ghouls like her around, fun to talk too.
DTox23
Does anyone know what happened to the rest of the world?
Dan3345
well most of Europe was wiped out in 2066 when NATO or the fallout equivalent of, went to war with the middle-eastern countries for resources. I believe this is referred to as the resource wars. That left China, and Russia who for some reason stayed out of the rest of the European conflict. Russia was still the USSR. But ironically they were sided with us. At-least in terms of who they thought would win and so then they could get some of the spoils with. So basically Russia was buddy buddy with America, because they thought if it came to war we would win over China and then they could share the oil with us. I don't know what happened to the rest of the world. I presume mad max came true for Australia. And most of Africa was very similar to how it is today, except they had more terrorism. All of this I have gathered from in game clues, and such, from fallout 1, 2, 3 and tactics, although I believe tactics isn't really considered canon. Some of this I also gathered from Van Buren although because that wasn't even released I don't if you can consider that canon either.
