Crazysniper
recently I learned about the geck and I have always wanted to make a gas station hide out for my character so I download the geck and boot it up but when I use the file data and make the new vegas.exe the main file it tells me that it is a higher version than the exe can load and if I ignore it I have no premade cells to choose from, so does anyone know a way to fix this? Sir Remai
When you load data, you need to load FalloutNV.esm. If that is what you are doing, and you have the most recent version of GECK, you need to make sure FNV is fully updated. From the sounds of it though, you actually have an older version of GECK. So make sure you have both FNV fully updated and the most recent version of GECK and try loading FalloutNV.esm again.
Crazysniper
ok I figured out the problem I was trying to use the wrong version but new problem I keep trying to set the falloutnv.esm as the active file but every time I do(I do it by clicking the name so there is a x by it then hitting set as active file then ok) but when I do the file/data thing it is unchecked again. ps I have both pieces of dlc dunno if that matters. Gribbleshnibit8
You can't set a master file as active. That would allow you to edit it, and GECK won't let you edit master files. For the purpose of what you're doing, all you would need to do is check the FalloutNV.esm file (just double click on it to check it), and click "OK". Once the GECK finishes loading all the data (will take between 30 seconds to a minute or so) then you will see the "Cell View" and "Object Window" windows full of data. Just find the cell you want to edit (the Vault wiki is helpful for finding locations and interior cell IDs), and have fun. The point where active files matters is once you make your edits, and save it, from then on, in order to edit that file, you just select it in the "Data" window and hit the "Activate" button (or whatever it's called). Sir Remai
I totally spaced mentioning what Gribbleshnibit8 said about master files, my apologies. When first creating a new mod, before loading any files in GECK, click save. Since you have no active files, it will prompt you to create a new save. Make a name and it should save as an .esp, directly into your data folder of FNV. Then, when you load (at least right after creating that), it should automatically have your newly created mod file set as active (though you should check to be sure). Also make sure any master files you wish to use (such as FalloutNV.esm or any of the DLC .esm's) checked. Then you should be able to start making edits which will be saved in the .esp file that you saved. From there you should follow tutorials on websites to help guide you though the use of GECK and creating areas/mods in it.Hope that helps.
