pandm101
Honestly, I'd prefer a goody two shoes, but how about a neutral character especially since it's me that wants the help making it.
nivea
I offered up to create something like this a while back but never got much feedback from the lady gamers/brochachos. So if you got specific ideas post em up. What exactly kinda feedback where you looking for? Its kinda hard for someone on the outside of a mod looking in to give good feedback or ideas. I mean I know my idea of a male companion wouldnt be the same as your idea. I would really love to see a male companion though, wish I was a better writer lol. Whatever the people who want one want, really. If I wanted a bromance for myself I would just make one. I am sooo horrible about typeing out my wants...because you know I just want anyone! XDI want a buddy (I mean romance would be nice, but a lot of people dont like leaving that option open for guys) for my guy someone with more then one liners like Boone, and more "manly" then Arcade (though I do love him).I am just easy (not like that!). T_T I guess I would prefer someone not totally goody goody, I mean there are already choices like that in game. But really no "eviler" characters, doesnt have to be eating baby evil but someone who's moral compass doesnt always point good.My idea and planing are never very good I have a hard time sitting down and concentrating, I blame my A.D.D. lol
pandm101
I can easily make a neutral character, and act it out too, if wanted, I can voice out some clever romance, or bromance if it be your thing.
nivea
I would guess both friendship and romance would be nice, somthing for everyone.... I wish I could offer more help but I just barely started animal companions. D:I am mostly a armor/texture/skins kinda girl it seems lol. I would be willing to help out with face or skins, maybe even armor. You can see screenshots in my NV profile. Odile
I'm watching this thread with interest. I had some stuff written up that I was going to post, but since this is pandm101's idea, I will wait until he posts some of his ideas for the character he wants to create so that I'm not highjacking anything. Let us know, pandm!

llamaRCA
Here's a better list of my ideas since I didn't give them to Quetzl in the earlier thread: 1) Faction neutral so that he can be ultimately totally loyal to the player. I don't think that means he could never have been a member of a faction, but it shouldn't get in the way of his ability to be loyal to the player. There's enough of that foolishness with the vanillas.2) I think he should be karma neutral. Again, enough of that covered with the vanillas. Players need alternatives, not more of the same.3) He should be attractive and not full of vanilla atrociousness (See Nivea's wonderful offer and giftedness)4) He should have a good reason to go with the player in the first place.5) My own personal preference is that he is neutral not only in karma and factions but also he doesn't preach or nag the player. I don't want my mother following me around The Mojave (or in this case my father).6) He shouldn't be depressing or sarcastic or angsty or have a flat affect. There is already enough of that in the game. He could be smart, witty, heroic, quiet, stoic, charming, rough around the edges, or etc. But I wouldn't make him like most of the other characters in NV. He should be unique and stand out or what's the point? 6) He should be romanceable and that should be optional and available for both sexes.7) He should have Idle Chatter for areas in the game and miscellaneous chatter.8 ) If the modder is feeling very ambitious there would ideally be chatter for quests as well, but this is a s*** ton of work. (and when I say this I don't mean writing it I mean getting it into the game).9) He could talk to other NPCs possibly including other companions; again more work and for the ambitious modder (this is more work both in terms of writing it as there is limited dialogue for the NPCs and more work to get it into the game, but not as much work as above).10) He should do some extra stuff. He might repair stuff, make stuff, know more about some category of weapons than anybody else in the area, etc. That's up to whoever designs his personality. But something makes him special and he does a couple of things in the game to demonstrate that and somebody will decide how many of those things he'll do. I'd say pick a theme of those things and stick with it. Unless he's some kind of jack of all trades kind of guy and then you could make him do a weird assortment of them, but then you'd want to give him that kind of personality as well.11) He should have a quest(s). I'm less interested in what this would be than other people, as I tend to replay games and don't like long recruitment ordeals for companions, but I do want him to have a backstory and want to know about it/learn it. That seems like enough...lol! Any more specific and I'd be writing the mod.
Odile
Okay, for the sake of progress, let me begin: Here is what has been established as being desirable, along with conjecture on my part: A neutral male who is friendly, easy-going/relatively laid back in conversation, but will get down to business when necessary. Morally gray, as nivea described. So you're wanting someone who is realistic and pragmatic and has the grit to make hard choices (so someone who is more experienced rather than naive). I think humor and wit are usually traits that people appreciate, so let's give him a silver tongue. Nivea made the comparison to Arcade (or rather, against him), so let's let this guy be less sensitive (maybe deflecting/hiding true feelings about things behind that humor/wit) and more brash (bordering on crude? I don't know? Should he be more polite? You tell me.) I can get behind a bit of arrogance and cockiness in a guy, but that may be my personal preferences bleeding through, so we'll leave that open. What do you agree with/want/hate? Establish a starting point. :) Things to consider: Factional alliances? A character may be impartial to all the faction politics that happen in the game (and scripted to BE neutral, from a gameplay standpoint), but character-wise may still prefer some methods/people over others. This will do a lot to sort of point his personality into some sort of direction. Background. Tragic past? Relatively normal? This will also be very important to flesh out personality and reactions to situations within the game world. Occupation. Bounty hunter? Fellow courier? Merc? Town guard? Male escort?! This could be important because it could open up the way for: How the follower will meet/be recruited by the Courier. Is he just standing around somewhere waiting for us, or is there a reason he needs our help ("Oh help, fiends just took my little brother hostage, help me rescue him!" or "Aw s***, I'm supposed to kill this Bad Guy for a contract, but he's tougher than I thought, I could use some backup" or "Hey babe, let me buy you a beer") There's a starting place. Go, go! edit: ninja'd! Edited July 19, 2011 by Odile
pandm101
Witty was my original intention. Also I feel energy weapons don't get enough love I want him intelligent, and dammit he will be he should have an appreciation of history, and also some knowledge of it. He likes things that are blatantly good ex the followers of the apocalypse. But also sees the futility of it. He can appreciate the order the legion brings, but dislikes the methods they use. Also he hates the brith racy of the ncr but likes it's ideals of freedom and democracy. i want him kind hearted, but not a whiny baby in the face of decisions. I'd prefer that he were originally a scientist of a vault/enclave/bos that was more of the Indiana jones type scientist. Kick ass discover things woo ladies/men whatever.
