Nexus Reference App Setup Master List

  1. 1. Does there need to be a permanent sticky, FYI or master list of suggested app setup for NV?

    • Yes- A place to point noobs w/ the same q's, and a clearinghouse for compatability.
    • No - The information is availabile readily enough, it's needless clutter.

Ok, when I first started playing FO3, within an hour I had discovered F.O.M.M. as a solution to some of my problems within an hour.

Once I realized just how many applications were necessary or nearly I made a concerted effort to track down and acquire them all. I thought.

Now that I play NV, every time I start reading on here or elsewhere I find something else I hadn't heard of, that is apparently essential to successful operation.

Bethesda & Obsidian would claim all you need to run the two games is:

A computer and GPU that can handle the load;

The game;

Steam.

I know many(all?) NEXUS users would strongly disagree and have many ideas of what more was needed.

I AM going to be searching around for existing topics and threads discussing the proper 'setup' for playing these games; and posting either the abbr. content or the link listed here.

Things that would fall under this umbrella would be: Which directory location (default, or user specified) causes what problems? Can one be said to be 'better,' or 'best,' and which one? - Including the mention of F.O.M.M., what other applications are essential for gameplay? Which ones assist or 'boost' each other? Which ones conflict, does the user have to choose between one configuration and another?

-Mods and load order are NOT part of this discussion, but the ability to use them would be. That is, the 'perfect' setup would naturally allow for compatibility and smooth running of mods, as some may be necessary that do not affect the balance of gameplay. However, which mods specifically conflict or which ones one might use is irrelevant unless it is a 'fix' for the whole game that the above description applies to.

-DLCs, on the other hand, would apply, and the compatibility for them, as I have had ZERO success in getting any of them to function at all.

I want to push for support to organize a permanent list of the 'ideal' setup for playing these titles, in this thread specifically New Vegas. Feedback on that is appreciated as well.

-What do the good customers, that are always right(in this case literally, through trial and error) have to say about what you 'need' for a complete, stable, fully functionality setup for playing F:NV. Discussion of the same should probably occur for FO3 but that should happen separately from this topic for sanity's sake.

-Ok, start dropping those links to relevant discussions and threads (preferably internal links, here) and putting in the 2c you know as well. What is your setup? Do you feel you might not know all about it or have all you might need? Do you know of much more but think this setup works good enough for you?
