Completeing Quests Quickly?

So recently I lost my main save game. I had completed just about every quest, including the major ones, and I was just beginning the Main Quest.

Well, the file was lost, and I want it back. Of course it's wiped off the face of the earth, so the actual file cannot be retrieved. But there was the alternative of recreating the character and starting from scratch. I'd rather not go through everything all over again (except for the little side quests and such), so I was wondering if there was a cheat code that would make me The Listener, Champion, Arch Mage, etc . . . Yes I am playing the PC version, so I have that code prompt thingy "~".

I've already tried

player.completequest <FormID>

caqs

player.setstage <QuestID> <Stage>

and these do not seem to work. They don't give me any status in any of the guilds, they only prompt the quest completion screens.

Also keep in mind I still want to do the Main Quest on my own.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

A few methods if you want to complete quests quickly:

- Only fast travel

- If you can't fast travel, use the code "coe ##, ##"

- Set the difficulty slider to min.

If you just cheat through the quests, then you miss out on all the rewards, fame, infamy and fun. This way you still keep some of it.

The problem with the attempt you are using is that guild advancement is awarded through dialogue (asking about advancement) not quest completion. The first thing you should try is to ask the member of the guild using the advancement topic.

If the advancement topic is unavailable then you can just use console commands to set your rank in the guild.

e.g player.setfactionrank magesguild 9

Mages Guild level 9 is the Archmage. If you want a lower level then use 0-9

The other factions' guildmaster ranks are -

player.setfactionrank fightersguild 7

player.setfactionrank darkbrotherhood 9

player.setfactionrank arenacombatants 8

player.setfactionrank thievesguild 7

But - doing it this way has the potential to mess up part of the guilds. For instance you may not be able to get access to the Archmages ingredients chest or the Fighters Guildmaster's items chest. You definitely won't get the Gray Cowl so you may want to add it through the console as well. Be sure to talk to the quest givers regarding all available dialogue items. A lot of dialogue topics are added through dialogue meaning that if you skip over that part then some other dialogue might not be revealed.

I know how you feel voleuse, I have played through many of the quests in Oblivion too many times to remember, although this is self inflicted.

The above part in your first post I wanted to say something about. I don't know about the top line 'cause I haven't used it before, but the bottom line I think is wrong. I have used:

setstage <QuestID> <Stage>

Many times when my game seems to miss triggers in quests and won't advance.

Are you new to gaming or something? Here is some advice for next time, so there will not be a next time. When you save your game, always save at least three backups at different levels. One should match your current game. The others lag back as you choose, update them once in a while. That way if you add a mod that doesn't work well of if you somehow loose a game, you can use a backup. You should also go in windows explorer and make a backup folder and copy all your saves there.

You can save a game with a custom name by hitting the tilde console key and type

SAVE "Gamename" use quotes

I am always curious about such things as this and apologize if I tread on thin ice but How did you come to loose it? If running XP you OS makes backups using the restore file. Perhaps you might have a recent save in the restore file. I use a 5 save rotation with 1 save as a backup "when all is well" and do not touch it. I can understand deleting a save file or having the game tell you a save is corrupt. By your statement you seem to say that you have only one main save file? well if it is any comfort I did this once and have used multi save files in every game sense. You do have my sympathy however, so good luck
