CTD in Settlements - 1.5 Patch

onthursdaynext

Recommended Posts

Hi, hopefully some one can help me since I'm only one step away from a complete reinstall with lots of finger crossing, my last resort.

Ever since the 1.5 patch I've been experiencing CTDs in settlements, even on new games. The only settlement related mods I had installed were Brighter Lights, Better Settlers and Don't Call Me Settler, as well as some radios and flags from OWR but none of those seem to be my problem. It happens randomly, whether I've just walked in to the settlement or if I've been building for a good hour or so. It never happens in open wilderness or even the city, just those cursed settlement locations.

Any one have any ideas as to what could be the problem? Has any one else been experiencing this? Even knowing I'm not alone with these crashes would be reassuring enough to put up with it. Damn do I wish Fallout 4 generated error logs on crash...

Well, I've done a complete reinstall and still get crashing in settlements. I was in Hangman's Alley at the time of the crash. Haven't tried a New Game, I'm a little too disappointed at the moment to try. I'll include my Load Order now and maybe some one can glean more info from that?

o...kay. So, I've tried starting a new game and I'm very sad to report that I still have this error. Just random crashing in settlements.

By enabling the papyrus debug log I found that there's a script error with something called ThistleTrapScript.psc on line 30 but when I open this script to check it out, it seems complete. Removing the script doesn't change anything either. As far as I know nothing installed has replaced this, but it's interesting to note that I've never encountered the "thistle trap" in a game before. Ever.

Any one else have this issue or even something similar? It seems people are checking this topic out according to the views so it'd be great to have some replies. Or encouragement. This error tracking is enraging, and chipping away at my sanity bit by bit.

Just some generalized tips...your load order is in alphabetical order, it probably needs to be sorted better. Also, you don't seem to be using a merged patch. Usually something that is recommended.

Also, if you haven't already, check all of the mods you have for updates. Since the CK came out, many of them have released fixes or compatibility patches for other mods. I don't personally use several of the mods you have, so I don't know offhand if any of them have updates or patches.

And you'd be surprised how easy it is for ONE mod to change ONE thing that really has nothing to do with what the mod does, that will completely hose your game lol.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, that load order was definitely off. I think I noticed as soon as I posted but didn't have time to correct my load order, so I've hidden it ahaha. I gave creating a compatibility patch a try but FO4Edit didn't pick up on any conflicts really, just a couple things involving my Vadacil tags. The patch did not resolve my problem.

So... I did another reinstall from the ground up including Nexus Mod Manager, updated everything, dropped some mods (namely, the "Don't Call Me Settler" mod, which sucks cus I'll definitely miss it), and added some anti-"cell reset bug" mods and now... it seems to work. I loaded up my old save I was having troubles with and it seems fine. Like... what the hell.

My recommendation for any one having this problem is to go light on the settlement mods, and don't be afraid of reinstalls. Don't complicate things, just be patient until the FO4 ecosystem stabilizes. I also apologize for my multiple posts in a row here, but I personally hate googling for a problem only to find a thread about it with no replies or updates from even the original poster.

My current load order, for the sake of it.

i was having CTD like crazy because of the new update the only way i was able to fix it was to disable almost all my weapons mods, no more CTD for me. My conclusion is that now modders will have to either update their mods so it works with the new update or beth wil have to make a patch but i doubt beth will... the way i found out which mods were conflicting with the update is that i had to disable all mods in NMM, i then enable all the mods that were NOT highlighted in orange.

I dont know but thats how i fixed my CTD issue

note that some armor/clothing will CTD (i had to disable some)
