silky smooth101
Hi, I have never used a mod in a geme before and have two questions; 1) Is there a limit to the amount of mods I can use at one time?2) Do I have to start a new game every time I add a new mod? Thanks
tsolless
1) I don't think there is really... I've heard of 250 before but that is an obscenely high number so I doubt you will hit a limit. 2)Depends on the mod. Most mods you won't have to, but some you will. Always check the readme for instructions.
PanzerOfGod
The only limit for the amount of mods you can have is your computer's power.
Vagrant0
The only limit for the amount of mods you can have is your computer's power. No, the 250 limit is the maximum, as mentioned. This is because each mod offsets the form IDs of things added by that mod in relation to the loading order. 00xxxxxx is taken by oblivion.esm, ffxxxxxx is taken by things spawned by the game. The reason for saying 250 and not 253 is because some mods will occasionally take up more than one address for some reason (probably merged incorrectly). As for starting a new game, yeah, you may have to if you add some mods which add races, or alter a good portion of the game. Even texture/mesh mods may require starting a new game if they're removed in order to get the defaults working again. Additionally, any time you remove a mod, you may have to go back to a save made before that mod was installed, so you might want to start small, with some of the more basic mods, make a few good saves, then see what is out there. You may still have to make a new game for some mods to work, but there aren't too many of those around, and those that do usually change the game in some fundimental way. Sypron
And before getting a big, game changing mod that looks cool always consider if you REALLY want it. Cause if you don't it's those mods that will mess up your game if you want to get rid of it.
xachan86
For example, if you intend to use Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, you won't get the benefits unless you start a new game from scratch. Can be frustrating if you're already lvl 25, but if you're only lvl 5-6 it's worth the pain.
