millahnna
SO this is a little different. The first few eye colors are black (the game defaults) while the custom colors are showing just fine. Tried messing with graphics settings and no joy. Assuming I'd run into a mod conflict, I tried removing mods and chargenmorph references for eye related mods and no joy. Anyone seen this particular problem before? Trying to google and search forums for it is turning up just the same old "my graphic settings are too low and all eye colors are black" posts. Again, not all of my eye colors are black... just the game defaults.

If it's Morrigan and Sten to name 2, their eyes are custom no one else has them so they won't be black. I had this problem and nothing I did would change it, the bottom line was my graphics card wasn't up to the task. I've since had my PC rebuilt and I don't have any problems. millahnna
I resolved this but I'm not entirely sure how as it just got weirder while I was trouble shooting. I was able to figure out from comparing the problem settings in char gen with the entries in my chargenmorph that it was only the default game eyes (including Morrigan and Sten). At first I thought it was a mod conflict or just one too many appearance mods but various tests didn't seem to support that theory. I had been installing and testing mods one or two at a time and reorganizing my downloads folder (which is getting to Sims 2 levels of madness). The cause of the problem turned out to be that that I buried some default replacements (Pineapple tree's I think) too deep in subfolders but instead of going back to the game defaults, it just pooped out and showed black like when you set your graphics details too low. Interestingly, some of the other files that were buried in too many subfolders were still showing in game so apparently that "three subfolders deep" rule isn't universal. Once I figured that out and moved the replacement files back where they belonged, the problem stayed, even though my replacements don't have their own listing in chargenmorph because of how they work. I finally recompiled my chargenmorph with TerraX's utility and that seemed to be the final step to fixing it. I was reluctant to run it because I'm lazy and I hate having to copy back in the LOTC eyelashes for the character creator and the black eye makeup (it always removes those). SO yeah, solved and here for posterity in case someone else runs into the same problem.
