Creation Kit stopped working - anyone else have this problem?

Well, now that I got CK working, I run into another issue: CK now refuses to let me drag additional files into the 'create archive' box; If correctly identifies entirely new files used in a mod, but won't let me add any additional files, like facedata (nif and dds files) of existing NPCs. Do I have to go back to the ancient archive.exe file? Will it even still work?

@madutka - I honestly have no idea where all the problems are coming from.

Did you try to end "get windows 10" in the taskmanager AND running as Admin?

Fixed mine! Here's how I did it, and it seems to be stable. Well, as stable as the CK usually is.

1: Go to your Skyrim folder (the one your Data folder is in, not the Data folder itself)

2: Make a shortcut to the Creation Kit .exe file, put said shortcut on your desktop in replacement of Steam's one. (Basically, while you still need Steam to launch it, this launches while allowing configuration of certain settings)

3: In the Properties of your new shortcut, pick the Shortcut tab (I'm running Windows 7, so these instructions assume you, too, are running 7)

4: Select the Advanced button, next to Open File Location and Change Icon.

5: Tick Run as Administrator there, click OK.

6: Compatibility tab, also select Run this program as an administrator.

7: Click OK to save your shortcut, and always, always launch the CK from this shortcut.

This has been quite an ordeal, but now I can jump around for joy (at some other time when I wouldn't wake my neighbors, who would think I'm crazy for dancing around the house and yelling "I fixed it, I fixed it!" at the top of my lungs.)

As to redefine my problem, I was having crashes after loading any .esm or .esp file, including Skyrim.esm. The Creation Kit would crash, repeatable each time, with a BEX error, exception code c0000417. The above seems to have fixed my issue. Notably, it's working, despite turning Compatibility Mode off.

This error occurs in a few scenerios:

1. Your SteamLibrary is somewhere other than the Steam program files.

2. You installed Skyrim Special Edition and the creation kit, and they are both in different folders; you didn't install the non-special skyrim.

In truth, Steam should add a special edition creation kit so that it works automatically works with skyrim special edition.

Complain on Steam.

I have this problem. I can add a bit more detail to when it happens as well. The CK runs fine with base game and all DLCs as well as every mod (.esp). When I attempt to load a particular .esp...the CK gives me the message that it has stopped working. This is the second time that I have experienced this. Both times it has happened on a specific mod project. It is unbelievably frustrating because you can't get into the CK tool (it's supposed to be a tool) to make adjustments...because the tool does not function. I know that the very last modding step in my current project must have caused a problem, but I can't undo that step or make an adjustment because you can't get into the tool. If I knew "why" the tool functionality is interrupted...then I'd know "when" to save a particular .esp project and give myself a chance to avoid a complete "rebuild" of a large mod. I don't know how to get the CK to kick over when I've selected the offending .esp, but it will certainly run with each and every other file. If anyone knows how to get the CK to run under these circumstances... that would be great. As a secondary protocol...do you use something like FO4E to remove the offending last step?

This is a pain.

Had the same problem, driving me bonkers. Reloaded CK, etc. Checked and double checked the ini. Still master load error. Did everything suggested in this post still not working. Lo and behold, in skyrimprefs. ini I had bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1 (twice) bAllowMultipleMasterFiles=1 wasnt there. This is an FYI, I have been modding bugthesda for years and every once in while I do something really stupid, like this one. LOL

Make sure CK is set to run as adminstrator. Set ini read onlly, I forget sometimes and it gets over written on updates. Keep backup ini's.
