glossedsfm
Hi I've been having some trouble opening certain .DDS files. I have no problems opening some but then certain normal maps were giving me issues. But now i'm not able to open a few diffuse .dds either. I've tried paint.net and GIMP with the DDS plugins but neither one will work. I've heard that there is some Intel and Nvidia program that works too but i cant find the Intel one and I cant figure out how the Nvidia one works. There was also a conversion program that i found but that one doesnt work either. Here are the latest files that i've tried out that dont work. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7981/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D7981&pUp=1 http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7748/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout4%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D7748&pUp=
dazzerfong
Diffuse sometimes uses BC1 or 3, which is DXT1 and 5 respectively. These are easily opened with all DDS plugins. However, normal maps and some diffuse maps use BC5 and 7. You'll need to convert it to another format like TGA using "texconv" before you can edit it. The Intel Texture Works plugins only works with Photoshop.

I dont know if i'm typing in the correct command but here is what i've tried after i've run texconv.exe texconv c:\filenamec:\ (for when it asks me destination) texconv c:\filename.ddsc:\ texconv c:\filenamec:\newfilename texconv c:\filename.ddsc:\newfilename.tga I noticed that texconv has a bunch of dash commands. Do i need to resize the length x width of the file too? or anything else?
glossedsfm
One other thing...as a backup if I'm not able to figure this out and if jeffglobal, the creator of those two mods i linked earlier, doesnt get in touch with me. If i were to manually make my own fingernail/toenail painting can i just color it in a basic dark red color on the diffuse map? and if i understand how things are supposed to work then material (surface properties?) properties and the specular map is what will give that color a shiny or glossy look?
