Lord of the Strings
Hello to all! My first posting here, and sorry, that there is nothing better I can tell here by now ... My question seems to be quite a technical one and as I'm kind of a real windows dummy I have not the least of a guess what's going on here. The story in short: ( Before I do forget: the resp. OS is win2k SP4; but it occurred with SP3 as well, also on a former motherboard ) I'm running the Morrowind game ( English version ) since Oct 2003, with the whole bench installed ( Tribunal & Bloodmoon, with win98, win2k and linux-2.4.18/XFree86-4.4 ) and all was finest. But since I had to reinstall the whole stuff I experience a very strange problem: playing the Bloodmoon 1.6.1820 patch in ( no matter the US or European version ) doesn't update Morrowind but it stays at some 1.5.x versioning. Also my own mod bleats that it can't find the version of esm it's been built with. I reinstalled the hole chain now for 2 times : Morrowind / no Morrowind.1.2-patch ;-) / Tribunal / Tribunal patch / Bloodmoon / Bloodmoon patch;; but it comes out to all the same: it stays with 1.5.1629 ( , , and yes, I tried new downloads ;-) There are no error messages when installing from cds or applying the patches. Just "Congratulations: you have successfully installed" a.s.o ;--/ The hell is, that Bloodmoon_1.6.1820 is needed for the Graphics Enhancer, so my question is: what might be going wrong here? I did a fast look into the registry and found some of those amazing entries in HKU and HKCU, containing the string "1.6.1820", but no "1.5.1629" and I think they may stem from last run out of the explorer or so, but I don't know. Unsure whether to pin here - I do, just for fun, in the post scriptum ;-) I tried to google but the combo of bloodmoon, win2k and some others left me dumb. If anyone here could help me just to get an i*dea* even where to look for the *problem*, it really would be a great help :-D TiA The Lord of the Strings PS: "HK©U/S-1-5-21-1390067357/-1972579041-839522115-1000/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/ \nExplorer/UserAssist/{75048700-EF1F-11DF=-988-00/6097DEACF)}/Count/HRZR_EHACNGU: \nT:\tnzrf\zbeegj\Oybbqzbba_i1.6.1820.rkr" a.s.o. EDIT: Well, this really hurts, but while i've been under way for some time, i found the completely trivial solution of the problem; i could just deserve the post to deletion, but chances are, some day a windows dummy like me will be born again and stumble over the same problem.TODO: 1) Uninstall morrowind via systemcontrol/software or using explicitly the setup.exe routine.2) Install it to *some other directory*, whch should be named different: so *Morrowind* instead of *morrow*; just to change cases (morrow to Morrow) may end up in the same trap 'cause win's file system has limited sensitivity to cases. This worked fine for me. Oh well, i *love* it :-/BTW: If you have the complete files from the CS/install CD's copied to the disk, it is *not* necessary to delete them. Just rename ..\Data Files before uninstalling to something like ..\Data Files--- and copy the hole stuff to the new install dir when finished with the setup. Same goes for the ..\Saves dir. I pondered some time, than i made the decision that i do *not* want to know the reason of this funny accident ;D LotS
