No, you're not missing anyhting. That's the way it is (in the vanilla game, at least). Some mods though (like the Raider Overhaul, for example) do add new items that you can craft at some workstations
whodat1 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 If you want to make stuff you will need mods. One of the best for making items is Armorsmith Extended. Plenty of other mods add items to the Chem Station and there are mods to add other workstations like Weapomsmith and Legendary Modifications.

Plenty of mods adding custom armors and weapons have a support for CW custom workbenches. Install this, go to your settlement and build new crafting station.
