Survival Mode Bug - Game Freezes During VATS Mode

I am playing on a very lightly modded game and getting this bug as well. I am going to start a vanilla game today and see if I get the same issues. I am also running the game via F4SE as I am using the Place Everywhere mod by TheLich. I played for 3 hours last night after turning SSAO off with no freeze. Left it off played again this morning and in Kendall Hospital got the freeze in vats. So if anyone else read SSAO might be a fix I dont believe it is.

Try setting your iNumHWThreads=2 in your Fallout4.ini. That worked for me.

Had this issue happen twice in the past hour, not fun when you're on survival.

 

Bethesda need to fix their game that we all paid good money for. I can't believe they have game-breaking bugs like this almost a year into the release...

Sorry to necro this thread, but this is happening to me and I was hoping that perhaps the unofficial patch had fixed it or something.

This bug occurred for me playing a mod free game. I started a game from scratch in Survival Mode. Had been playing slowly through the game for a few weeks. Got my character to about level 45 without ever experiencing this bug. Then sent her out to the Glowing Sea to find Virgil. Could not get through the Glowing Sea. No matter what route she went she eventually froze up using VATS on ghouls, stingwings, bloodbugs, or radscorpions. The freeze occurs for me the moment I hit the Q to enter VATS. Don't believe it has anything to do with reloading weapon. It is a hard freeze. I cannot even bring up Task Manager. The only solution is to hit the power button and restart my computer.

 

The only viable workaround I have found was to install Gopher's No Sleep til Bedtime mod. To stress this is only a workaround for the bug. It does not fix it. The bug is there and I never know when it will crop up.

 

After being forced to play a modded Survival Mode to continue with the game I went ahead and added the mod to enable the console. I lost Ada and the only way I could get her back was to use the console.

 

It is disappointing that I cannot "complete" this game in Survival Mode without the use of mods.

 

For reference, I am playing on a PC. My specs are

 

Core i7 6700K

32GB RAM

1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD

GTX 970

Windows 10 Pro

I'm having this problem too. I think at this point we need to ask if anyone HASN'T experienced this issue.

 

*The bug happens with or without mods

*The bug happens with or without Penetrator, Awareness, or other VATS related perks.

*The number of enemies, the time elapsed since last time I entered VATS, the number of shots I'm firing, and whether or not I'm reloading DO NOT MATTER

 

The only thing people are reporting consistently is that it happens in Survival mode, Bethesda doesn't give a damn, and that it completely breaks the game.

I have the exact same bug on my survival playthrough.Never had it at low levels though, I'm around level 60, the bug happens now at least once per game session. As it is the game is unplayable unless I don't use vats at all. I have some mods installed mostly UI and sounds/radio mods. I'll probably end up installing a save mod or just stop playing this game until some workaround is found...

Having the same issue, crashes in VATS, kinda sucks because I'm playing survival mode. I lose a couple hours work because it just crashes, and I have a task manager, and shut it down.... really sucks...
