FOMM Help

I need some serious help here, no matter what I do I can't get FOMM to work anymore. Whenever I try and start it, it just crashes and says "FOMM has stopped working"

Some details on how this happened.

I was trying to get a new mod working but no matter what I tried I just couldn't get it to run without crashing NV at start up. So I decided to try an older version of the mod (both versions were in FOMM format) so without deleting the newer version in the FOMM mod folder I installed and attempted to activate the new one. Immediately Windows crashed and my computer restarted. When Windows loaded back up, FOMM wouldn't start and just crashed on start up. I tried uninstalling FOMM (multiple times). I also deleted any traces of FOMM's mods folder and the folder in the My Documents folder. I deleted my New Vegas game folder in steam and replaced it with a backup I created before I installed any mods. Nothing worked, FOMM still won't start without crashing.

I'm at a loss on what to do now. There is no way I would want to play NV without FOMM and mods. My saves also have all the mods I was using and everything worked fine before this one mod messed everything up. I can run NV from steam fine, everything starts up so I know it isn't the game. How can I reset FOMM to install and start up like it did before this happened? Would reinstalling NV help? Would I have to reinstall my OS? I just don't understand how FOMM isn't working after reinstalling it, is it saving data somewhere other than the install folder that I need to delete? I'm using the latest FOMM. One thing though when I try and reinstall it, it doesn't give me the option to manage FO3 or NV like it did before, it also doesn't ask me where to create the mods folder.

I really could use a little help :wallbash:

Edit:

Haha, oh wow. After making this post I thought of where it might of been storing any extra data and it turned out I was right.

Deleting the FOMM folder with a single user config file in /C:/Users/Username/AppData/Local fixed my problem. I guess a mod can delete this post or leave it here for anyone else who might be having the same problem.

It's a good thing this post is here. I beat my head against the wall for about an hour dealing with the exact same error until I found this post and learned where that file is hiding.

If there is a system crash while FOMM is running (a hard crash -- a solid freeze, BSOD or power off) that config file can be corrupted. In my case, Windows believed the file was 11kb, but a hex editor showed the file contained nothing. After removing the FOMM folder you mention, a new config file was created and it contains data.

kudos for posting this. As we know many people have problems with FOMM like this.

btw...Maybe its good to point out something related to this, that I've learned at my job as sorta righthand...well left hand assistant to our tech-support guy, who has his hands full with peoples computers and I help him out when I can. :)

Most of the time when things like this happen with any programs its good to do same kinda thing. Meaning program crashing and not working aftewards even with un/reinstalling program.. just search anything and everything that has programs or makers name on it. Files, folders even registry entries. Many times you have to make hidden files visible from folder option. Like in this case it can be just one single file that messes s*** up. Delete them and most of the time that should make things work again. Just remember to do system backup (and registry backup if you fiddle with registry) so in case s*** hits the fan you can recover stuff.

I'm having this exact same problem. It was working fine until I tried to make my Nexus Mod Manager use the exact same location for the install info. FoMM immediately crashed and I got the same crashdump info.

Thank you Nexus community moderators for keeping this post available. Google search helped me find the topic I needed. This is exactly what happened to my FOMM and the same "hidden file" solution after hard CTD occurred worked wonderfully. Thank you for finding the solution and letting the community know how you handled it.
