the_senator90
Hi, Nexus Forums. I'm new to modding, and I have some awesome concepts I'd like to see implemented within my game. Unfortunately, I don't know how to get them working, as I don't have the moddeling or experience with the GUI's to get the work done. I have 3d Blender, and multiple mods and resources. Unfortunately, I have no means of getting past the conceptual stage. My questions are: Are there any threads on recommended programs for beginning modders and tutorials on modding, and modding tips and tricks? Does anyone have a good thread to referring how to use 3d Blender with Fallout New Vegas? Does anyone know how to extract data from Fallout 3 to New Vegas (legally) and transfer it over? Moraelin
Well, the easiest part of that is how to extract data. Just use the BSA Browser in FOMM, or the standalone FO3Archive tool, and just extract the game archives somewhere. Then look for the item you're trying to change, and start from there. For tutorials, you can start with those on the site here. That said, if I'm allowed a humble suggestion, if you don't have 3d modelling experience, I'd start a bit slower. Diving into the full problem can be a disheartening experience, or it was for me. Start easy, first with just getting used to the GECK to make named duplicates of existing items with changed stats, then do some recolours or retextures, then finally bother with mesh editing when you're confident you know your way around the previous steps. You may even try stuff like, combining existing items in NifSkope, before diving into Blender. The thing is, for new meshes you will need ALL those skills and tools, so they're not just a distraction along the way. But you can make your life easier by taking them one problem at a time. IMHO.
