Classes

I was thinking of ways to improve NV for character customization (without using perks since you could easily do that one) and I thought of an idea. Make a mod that allows you to select a class type, and depending on your class type (lets say Scout or Shocktrooper, or Sniper in this case) then you get a bonus with certain weapons, and a negative to all other weapon types. Such as for a shocktrooper, and automatic (machinegun type) weapon, and flamethrowers you would get 20-50% damage boost, but any other type of weapon gives you a negative to damage or something like that, and lets say it's part of your background, you were trained in a certain skill set. Just a minor layout:

Scout: +25% run/walk speed, all non-sniper rifles, one handed pistols +25% damage and speed, all light armor gets +15% DT/DR. -20% to all other weapon types, and loses speed bonus when using medium and heavy armors.

Shocktrooper (or Commando): +25%(speed/damage) bonus to all machinegun, flamerthrower, and grenade style weapons and a +20% DT/DR with all medium to heavy armors. -20% to all other weapon type damage, and -20% to protection using light armor.

Sniper: +10% speed and critical hit with all sniper weapons and pistols and +20% damage with sniper rifles, and +10% to DT/DR with any light armor. -20% to all other weapons and -30% movement speed using medium or heavy armor.

My question is why you wouldn't use perks when you said that you could easily use perks to achieve the same thing. But, to clarify, do you want this to work alongside the existing perk system, or eliminate the perk system, etc?

To exist alongside the existing perk system, but make it so that certain perks are only available if you had the "Prior Training" as in, the class you choose becomes your line of perks to choose from, and the weapons you will use most. Pretty much it's giving your chaacter a bit more background saying that you had previous training before you were shot in the head.

-Well at first I thought to do this I'd need a script... turns out I won't need it, after I thought about it more for an easier way to do it. I found one. I can make the traits chosen at creation to be able to pick 3 instead of 2 this will allow for the class. And then I can make it so that certain perks require the certain trait, and then just make form lists for the weapons each class will use and reference them to the related class. Well... seems it may be possible by an easier system haha, I'm surprised I hadn't thought this sooner.

-But then whats to stop you from choosing all 3 classes? Hmm... I could make it so that choosing one does not allow you to choose the other? I have to think that through more...

-I thought about it more and thought that I could put branch classes that require you to have only chosen 1 starter class. Now all that's left is to decide the branch classes... Have to think about that now, and this is a mod that I may actually upload...

--Thinking more about this I realize there may be a problem, there are so many weapon mods that people use that in order for this to work it may actually require a script related to each class so that the weapons from mods also work with it... this puts my plans to a bit of a stop atm. But I suppose I could always make a pure vanilla version....

Yeah... I made that xD I thought about it more and more until i found a way to make it work at least a little.

-You could say I answered my own request (I thought it might need a script to work before).
