Crash when I mouseover Riot Shotgun

My game crashes whenever I mouseover my WMX-modded Riot Shotgun. This happens both in the Pip-Boy menu and item container menu. The problem started right after I updated some mods, which I did in one big shot, so I can't really tell which one it was or what I did wrong with it that caused the problem. The mods I updated are below.

 

Project Nevada to 2.2

PN-WMX to 1.2

WMX-FOOK and WMX-FOOK-DLC compatibility patches to 14-07-11 batch

WMX-Arenovalis textures CP to 1.08

 

I did some fiddling about, uninstalling and reinstalling various parts of PN and WMX and some how managed to get it to work again for a while. Then I noticed that my Brush Gun textures were a little screwy, and reinstalled the Arenovalis textures, WMX, and related CPs. And then the problem started up again. One thing I noticed was that when the problem starts, the Riot Shotgun's name reverts back to, well, the vanilla name Riot Shotgun, as opposed to the mod-renamed Remington Riot Shotgun. All my other guns still have their modified names while the problem is in effect (eg my .45 Auto Pistols are still named Colt M1911).

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I can think of would cause an issue like that would be if it had a mod on it that it no longer has (on the base form). The game is looking for mod data for that gun that doesn't exist, and since it can't find it, it crashes. So if you updated a mod that overwrites the riot shotgun mods, that would be your issue.

I'm not sure if it's relevant to weapons, but I found a while back if I had too many bonus effects stacked on armor items and it tried to display them when I moused over them it chrashed. I fixed it by ticking the "hide effects" box.

In my experience is that hovering over a weapon and then a crash is a incorrect repair list or error. Equipping and a crash usually an incorrect ammo list. There are other variables but those are the ones I check first. Is your game updated to 1.4? Some plugins need to be updated to 1.4 also. Load up FNVEdit with all your currently using plugins and compare the riot shotgun to the other plugins.

@ Gribbleshnibit8: That seems quite likely. I've removed my riot shotgun from my inventory using the console for now, and went to buy myself a new, unmodded one. I can mouseover this one without problems, but am unable to apply any mods onto it.

 

@ ozziefire: I don't think this is the case. I have other weapons with a full 3 mods on them and they are still working fine.

 

@ drktrper: What should I be looking for? I can see a whole load of red entries for the riot shotgun in FNVEdit, but I'm not making much sense of it. I've never used the program for anything other than making merge patches.

I was actually talking bonus effects, not mods, you can have a dozen bonus effects on a weapon without even adding mods, an object effect could contain too many bonus effects to be displayed when you mouse over the weapon, I found this the case with armor once.

Gribbleshnibit8 is correct. If your weapon is already modded by custom weapon modkit, and the modkit data on the weapon sheet is switched, mouseovering on the weapon in game will always lead to instant CTD. It's a fact. Edited by midtek

Before I begin, I would like to thank you guys for the help. At least I'm making some progress towards figuring out what the problem is here.

 

I was actually talking bonus effects, not mods, you can have a dozen bonus effects on a weapon without even adding mods, an object effect could contain too many bonus effects to be displayed when you mouse over the weapon, I found this the case with armor once.

 

I assume the bonus effects you are referring to are stuff like the PER +1 on hats and things? It's a riot shotgun from vanilla FNV, not a mod, so it probably doesn't have any outlandish bonus effects that some modded weapons might have. The mod kits I'd applied on the weapon were the 3 from WMX, and they were all applied after WMX was first installed.

 

There is one somewhat related issue though. Before all the problems started, riot shotguns in my game were renamed to Remington Riot Shotgun, probably by FOOK or Project Nevada, I don't know which. Once the problem hit, it was reverted to Riot Shotgun, while all my other weapons retained their changed names. Maybe one of the above 2 is overwriting the other one somehow, and causing a conflict with whichever one WMX is supposed to be compatible with?

So, how would I go about changing it back to WMX data? I've tried reinstalling WMX last in a series of mod reinstalls while trying to fix the problem, but it doesn't work. The strange thing here is that the riot shotgun seems to be the only one that's been hit with this problem. If I had messed things up while installing the new WMX version, all my WMX-modded weaponry should be causing crashes, but they are all fine.

The easiest way to diagnose is to download FNVedit and compare the listed lines of Weapon Mods section in Riot Shotgun sheet.

 

The right end sheet is final data get applied into the game. If its Weapon Mods section is blank or switched from WMX modkits you were using, that's the one causing the problem (likely to be shown as red). Than well, fix is relatively easy that you can do in 3 mins; without all the heck of reinstalling and uninstalling method that will corrupt your savegame in the end.
