PowderdToastMan
are you using multiple ram sticks and are they dual channel? the reason i ask is if u are using an older system that has has ram sticks that cannot communicate for more than 2 gigs of data than even using the 4gb enable will only allow one ram stick to fill up. Hi, I use 2 sticks of OCZ 800 Mhz Sli Ready Dual Channel memory (both Memtested alone for 12+ hours without any error) in Asus P5N-T Deluxe mainboard (nvidia 780i chispet). Also on boot, the screen says something along the lines of Dual Channel memory active. As noted earlier, when I used to play Fallout 3 I clearly remember it using over 2gigabytes of memory, however it seems to have problem to do that with FNV. thanks for the suggestion though, keep em comin' :)
Cornflower
OK, reviving and old thread... I have an uber-rig with Corei7, 16Gb memory (4x4Gb dual channel), SSD-drive, dual GTX750 and I'm using about 70 mods, some large, some huge. I'm using the 4Gb loader but I've NEVER seen Fallout use more than 1.8 Gb of my memory. Although, I'm not very sure about how to increase buffers and all that stuff, so I'd be grateful for a helpful hint or link. Anyways, are you really sure that the 4Gb loader is needed/working? I've maxed out all options and have no performance hits except for a tiny, tiny hitch when loading new cells outdoors, so perhaps we don't need the 4Gb thingy? If the game never uses more than 1.8 Gb, the 4Gb thingy is obsolete. Or, am I missing something? (Probably...) I was thinking that if I could remove the 4Gb thingy, there's one less thing that can crash my game. Any thoughts? PowderdToastMan
The 4gb loader actually decreases crashes due to other aspects too Its on the description. But if you use things like IWS - increased wasteland spawns, or warzones you'll see it hit over 3 gigs easy.
Uzibeatle
The 4gb loader actually decreases crashes due to other aspects too Just to chime in. I recently started using that 4gb loader too and I can say for suremy game is far less crashy than it was. It was a huge improvement for me. I'll just add I don't monitor how much memory the game uses a whole lot but when I do have occasionto pop up task manager when the game has been tabbed out (no issue at all for my system) it seems to benever more than 1.8 GB. I dont' really care if it does or not. Main thing for me was less crashing (by far). I still get the occasional crash due to some texture load or texture FPS drops to zero but those are flash fast and thetexture glitch crash was hugely diminished with the 4GB loader thingie. Fairly heavily modded game but not stupidly so. *Cough.*
GothikaGeist
Well I've custom built a PC and retired my old Dell. And I can say with certainty that the game is essentially crash free and even runs at a steady 60 FPS with all settings maxed out including textures (Ultra), LOD's rendering distances(As far as possible for every setting), etc. Not a single performance issue thus far. But I have a theory: IF you have Windows 64 bit but have fallout installed within the regular (x86) Program Files folder, won't that lower the amount of memory the game will be allotted? I remember playing on my Dell (Windows 7 32-bit) and the fan would start blazing as soon as the game starts running. But now I can Run fallout NV, with the GECK running, and Minecraft paused in the background. ABSOLUTELY NO PERFORMANCE ISSUES.
Mcsalmon
Hello, I am having the same issues as the OP, I never use more than 1.4GB worth of RAM and I use the below mods. I also used the FNV configurator and have almost everything maxed there with 8x AA and 15x AF and I run at a smooth 60+ fps. As a result I think this may be the cause as to why I have often random crashes, 1-2 an hour (usually less). It happens every time I enter a new area (when new information needs to be loaded into the RAM!). I have 2X4GB (8GB) of Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz RAM so I don't know why I cannot use a lot more to improve stability and reduce pop in textures.
