What's up with the maidenhead mirror

I live in england so really I should use the maidenhead mirror, but whenever I do, the download stops and starts. The kbs will slowly decrease for a certain period of time, during which the download stops, then it will start and the kbs will go up again. These stops and starts can last from 3-30 seconds.

But because of this, I just use the seattle mirror, and that works fine, no stopping and starting, but perhaps with a little slower kbs... but expected.

I have changed internet supplier 3 times, 3 different companies, and two different routers (not because of the maidenhead mirror problems though) and with each company it has been the same, it is not me.

I was just wondering if anyone was having the same problem and if it will be fixed.

Yep thats been my experience with the maidenhead mirror too for a long time, infrequently its just not as reliable/consistent/fast as the others (which are geographically further away) so I generally go for those with whichever has the least users at the time.

Edit: Unrelated to this site - But I have in the past also tried maidenhead for linux distros, its fine if using torrents where every byte of the files are guaranteed to arrive in perfect condition - But just a straight download of distros from there has been a guaranteed fail when you start installing the distro due to errors in the iso image. Another cd/dvd in the bin.
