Please help a modding newb with a simple outfit swap.

I am trying to change Preston Garvey's default outfit. (and his weapon, eventually...but...baby steps, for now)

I open the creation kit, and load the Fallout4 ESM.

I make an outfit called "prestonfixeroutfit" that consists of military fatigues, military cap, and patrolman sunglasses.

I open the Preston Garvey character, and change his default outfit to the one I made.

(In the render window, he now has on the outfit I created).

 

I save it as "Prestonfixer.esm".

 

The .esm I created is in the data folder... it shows up in the mod manager, with a check mark... it shows up with an asterix in the plugins file... It shows up in the "mods" section of the start screen, with a check mark.

 

BUT...When I load a game, Preston is still wearing his original outfit, and it completely un-edited.

 

 

I have not done any Creation Kit modding since New Vegas...YEARS ago...and I forgot how to do most of it.

 

What am I missing???
