Suggestions for the Tagging System

Recommended Posts

Some other users and myself have been posting suggestions for the new Tagging System here: > Gaming Source Network Forums > Specific Games > Oblivion > Announcements, News, Rules and Feedback > Site News:File tagging needs you!, Official News. I finally came to the conclusion that that was not the correct location for those suggestions to be posted. So, I thought I would open this thread and invite others to post suggestions here that pertain to tagging.

Whats been suggested so far::

Can I suggest a tag for patches or just one named FIX? I know it is important to keep the # of tags to a functional limit but some files would relay benefit from this tag.

case in point DLC Frostcrag Spire Mystic Emporium Fix

A compatibility patch. I have all of my OMODs that patch or fix anything tagged as FIX.

I think you should lower the 5 tag amount. Not a whole lot of people will be taggin, just like comments, and ratings.

Also as this is new it can take awhile for anyone to start doing it.

You need 5 people to vote for one and with the high amount of tags out there... t could take a loooong time to get tags up on a file.

I really think that an OBSE category in the tags section would be very helpful for the implementation of the system.

I'll second that.

I came here to suggest that very same thing.

Edit: This is a really great way to procrastinate by the way. I just spent the past 3 hours confirming tags. :)

OK in case you missed this.

Tag Status

Once the number of confirmed tags reaches 1,000 I will be launching the new tag search feature. Get tagging folks!

Update: Man 3 hours of tagging and I'm on page 4 out of 943. Break time! http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smiley-give-me-beer-sign.gif

 The good news is that I think I was the confirming vote on over 140 tags yesterday. It jumped from 390 or so to about 530. Now to just comb through the other 170 quest files that I need to suggest tags on.

Wow nice work! b-('u')-d

I keep finding mods I have forgotten. The really good ones like 10Travellers that I haven't seen for ages. It pays to tag!

I've done all of up to Page 9 aka 90 files.

I think the two most needed tags that aren't there yet are definitely something like patch/fix, and OBSE. At the moment the only tag that even comes close is Mod Dependency and that is a really broad ranging tag. Is there any possibility of you adding those tagging options Dark0ne?

Also perhaps it would be a good idea to add a reminder to the author to suggest some tags for their files on the page that confirms the upload. e.g "You can find your file on it's homepage url/here/url. Don't forget to suggest some tags for your file."

By the way Sativarg gets +1 Kudos for helping to tag so many files :).

Could we get a textbox for inputing a tag-name suggestion and say ten or twenty users confirm a tag-name and it sticks? Make it only one name per user per confirmation cycle perhaps.

And any tag that receives less than say 10 files use gets put on a vote out list for user confirmation to be removed. Ten strikes and a tag is sacked.

Just some thoughts.

Last continuance:

I think that once the tagging system is implemented, each mod author should be responsible for tagging their own mods, while moderators could have the power to tag those files that weren't tagged by their creators.

I mean, if I consider that my mod is some sort of mod, I wouldn't like that someone with too much free time in their hands came and added whatever they thought my mod was about, just because he wanted to mess around.

I'm not saying that responsible user tagging isn't a good idea, but I have come across some mods which had ALL the categories added to the suggested tag, and spent quite some time removing the superfluous ones. I don't know if that was some kind of bug, or some kid that didn't have anything better to do.

Oh, and once again, I'll repeat that and OBSE category is greatly needed. While I was tagging the Keychain mod, I didn't know what to add besides "Oblivion" and "Language - English", as none of the Item categories applied.

RE: tags for the key chain mod

key chain seems like a User Utility. But That is probably wrong, I use the word utility in my OMOD tags for files like the keychain and the Expanded Hotkeys and Spell Delete, but thats just my interpretation. But an OBSE tag is still a definitive answer.

RE: the way over-tagged entries

See this Mod Tags

I am beginning to think this is not the correct place to post these suggestions. It may be that they are not being seen at all and should be here :

> Gaming Source Network Forums > Specific Games > Oblivion > Announcements, News, Rules and Feedback > Site Feedback

The reason I have come to the aforementioned conclusion is the lack of any response from admin here.

Just another thing to consider.

It seems that, if language tags are going to be used, we'll need to cover more languages. Italian, in particular, seems to have been overlooked. I've actually run across several Italian mods since the implementation of tagging.

thanks herosinger I also noticed that.

I have a tag In OBMM called FPS+ for all of my performance enhancing mods and FPS- goes on the resource hogs like QTP III.

For tagging to be efficient, less is more. And a long list of tags that has to be scrolled threw to be used is going to deter some users from even trying. I use the search feature of Firefox to quickly find the tag I'm looking for. But, for users with less helpful browsers, a more user friendly layout may help.

One suggestion attached as test.html

A tag for "Unique Meshes".

That way I can find good armour and not just retextures.

The tag New Models is meant to cover unique Meshes.

polygon mesh

3D modeling

NOTE: The Body, New and Face Models tags may require some disambiguation for the sake of utility. Although it may be more correct to refer to these elements as models a large part of the community know them as Meshes.
