normvez
I can't mod for crap but a little idea just hit me... Whenever I play the main quest of Oblivion everything seems rushed. I'm sure others have noticed it too. Does it ever strike you as odd when you're doing other quests besides the main one? Like doing a fighter's guild mission when you're really supposed to meet Baurus at the Inn? I can't but help to play it through to the end when it starts, and I go from being a total nobody to the champion of the freaking world in... about a week. Talk about a meteoric rise to fame eh? So simply put, why not introduce simple level and time requirements for the main quest. Like the dialog with Jauffre about meeting with Baurus wouldn't be unlocked until you're level 10 or so. Higher levels for certain quest-starting dialog to be unlocked would add some role playing value to the game, so that you have a reason to go out and explore, do some missions while the main quest is on hold. Martin is safe in Cloud Ruler temple for the moment so you're free to do as you wish. Maybe a certain amount of days have to have passed before other quests are unlocked? You'd think that an epic struggle against the hordes of Mehrunes Dagon, once started would take a few months to finish. Why not also add a level requirement to join the Blades as well? It doesn't seem likely that they'd allow some schmuck who was there at the right place at the right time to join the hallowed ranks of the empire's guardians. You'd have to have a large amount of skill just to be considered for such a position... I'm also confused as to why Martin thinks you're such a good pal as to entrust his life to you... why not give him reason to like you? If he accompanied you on certain quests (Sancre Tor, Miscarcand, etc..) it would be a lot more roleplay friendly. (Saved his life on a few occasions, fighting the Mythic dawn with a friend at your side) It would also give you a greater sense of loss at the end. Instead of the feeling of "WOW, what a week, met up with a crazy old man's son, did some errands for him, then he's a dragon, then poof, he's gone. Now I'm a hero... talk about lucky". There was a distinct lack of epic...ness to the whole affair. I'm sure it would run parallel to the other companion mods out there. And finally, how about some company huh? Maybe go on a quest with some blades companions, the ones at Cloud Ruler looked like they would have some cool back stories to them. Maybe a permanent bodyguard at the end? I mean... It's lonely at the top. With clever modding and some piecing of dialog together, you'd have a revamped main quest... is anyone skilled enough to do this?? Malchik
Although we are not revamping the main quest, in the mod Povuholo and I are working on we do have a number of level related quests. We are also working on brief back stories for most NPCs not based in cities - and this includes Cloud Ruler Temple. My own view is the production of new mods is probably more rewarding to the modder than tinkering with the existing quests. I'm sure there are those out there who could do it, but I doubt if they will. Having said that, there are a load of mods out there so maybe I'm wrong. floggingmolly22
I agree with you, but I do see, as Malchik said, it is probably more fun to create new mods. That said, I can't mod, probably never will, and have no right to say what a modder would or wouldn't do.
tsolless
It would conflict with too many mods to make a completely revamp the quest line. You can make new quests but to edit the old ones...
leetgamer
or eventually you can start a modless character, do the modded mq, after youve finished it you can start modding and so on... so this is not a bad idea from my point of view...
