Geck no longer is working?

So I've used the geck for years now, never had any issues before; but a couple of weeks ago I opened up the geck to do a little modding work, and upon loading the default ESMs, the geck crashes.

I don't believe anything has changed between the time period of it working and not working, as I havent had any reason to change settings or alter files. It was very sudden in it's decision to not let me use the program. Again, the geck doesn't crash on load-up, but rather AFTER the ESM/ESPs have been loaded. Everything looks good-to-go for maybe half a second or so, then the geck program crashes and Windows says it is not responding. This happens with geck original and geck powerup.

I have tried a fresh install of the geck, geck PU, and even new vegas itself. I've tried using just geck and keeping geck PU uninstalled. I have ran as admin, started up the game, tried loads of other troubleshooting ideas, but nothing seems to work. Another idea I saw online was to make sure the game files weren't in program files, which my steam data never has been, so that isn't the issue either.

My guess is something in the load-up settings got tweaked, but I'm not really experienced with .ini files and I think i'd do more harm than good rooting around in them.

Has anyone had this issue before? or know what may be the culprit here? As I said, I've been modding for quite some time, on multiple systems, and I've never ran into this issue before. I figure myself a decent troubleshooter, and the fact that I can't find what is responsible, let alone fix this, has be pretty worried.

If anyone has any ideas or past experience, please help me out here. I'm at a loss.

Thank you

Edit: here is a youtube video of the program crashing and the error report Windows gives.

The Windows error is "unknown software exception (0xc0000417)". Unfortunately it is a pretty generic error. There is a fair chance that something else which was recently updated is the source.

Common suggestions are:

There is a possibility that some third party programs installed on the computer is causing the issue.

Perform a boot into "safe mode", and then if that fails a clean boot, and check if the app will start.

Refer the below link to know more about clean boot procedure.

Reset the computer to start as usual

After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

a) Click Start, type "msconfig" in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

c) On the General tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.

d) When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

I also had this problem, and have found a way to make it work without crashes. I just set the program to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista SP 1, and run the program as admin as well. This has worked for me so far, and it hasn't crashed yet (aside from the usual crashes you get using the GECK in general).

Just some extra info in case it doesn't work, I'm on windows 10 and use the GECK Powerup.

Hope this helps, Bay K.

Couldn't tell from your notification area on the desktop but do you use AVG? I had this exact problem about a week ago with the GECK and CK. Turned out it was AVG's Identity Protection, I just added the F3/New Vegas/Skyrim folders as exceptions so they're not monitored by it.
