My modding experience with FO4 is extremely limited (one mid-sized vault/dungeon built in attempt to get my head around the creation kit), and the friend I've been working with has made an extensive very customiseable player home for skyrim... Now we want to try our hand at a complete overhaul, aiming at building a realistic, post apocalyptic zombie survival type game in the F04 engine. When I know more or less what I have to do to accomplish something with whatever I'm working on I'll look for tutorials, see what info I can find online etc, but between the 64bit Kit being so new and not really knowing where to start, I have no idea what research materials to even start looking for. I guess I'm asking for some of you more experienced modders out there to give me a nudge in the right direction, I think the closest thing I've seen to what we want to do is kind of like what the DayZ mod did to Arma2. Not a complete, just zombies and nothing else, more like turning the Commonwealth into a Giant sandbox, with a few loose objectives, with an emphasis on survival and exploration. radiumskull Posted May 17, 2016 Share Posted May 17, 2016 Sounds like maybe you're thinking about a Radiant quest type thing, where zombie (ghoul?) outbreaks happen at certain points, as well as random locations. And maybe a quest to kick it off? I'm thinking of the way the Rust Devils get introduced in Automatron. You start out finding their hideouts, and then even after being done with all the DLC quests, they still show up every so often as random encounters. So talking from my (very limited) design perspective, it sounds like you need to map out how your mod is going to work within the Fallout gameplay framework. It may not be the same as Arma (I dunno), but it's not that much different from Skyrim. Complete overhauls? Bennybloke Posted May 17, 2016 Author Share Posted May 17, 2016 Well we want to get rid of all the standard quests and story, keep human settlements and wanderers here and there, have the games creatures and animals roaming about etc, more a kind of alternate reality going on in the same location as FO4? We don't want to just flood the common wealth with ghouls (a mod called The Running Dead, which is a great mod, already does that kind of thing) we basically just want to use the F04 engine and assets (we'll make a fair few new ones too) to make pretty much a new game.
