Bennybloke
I can't shake the feeling this is one of those questions that has an obvious solution, but is it possible and if so how to create a new NPC that uses a unique body/head/hands/feet/etc mesh and textures, and a unique outfit/armour? I figure a one off outfit and armour set would be easy enough to convert with bodyslide, but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to change a new NPC's model? I've done some looking around and started thinking that creating a new race was the way to go, but info on how to do that is just as hard to come by. Although it could be I've just been asking google the wrong questions and looking in the wrong areas on the forums here. Any help is greatly appreciated :)
BlackRoseOfThorns
There is a mod creating a new mesh/texture file path for few selected companions. It was made by editing Unique Player mod, so maybe you should download it and poke around. Acording to author custom race would be necessary only if you replace head and skeleton. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3718/?http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4293/? Bennybloke
Thank you for the reply I actually have both of those mods installed after coming to the same conclusion, but i'll be buggered if I can find any indication in the creation kit as to how they've done it, so i know its possible lol.Thank you again for your help :)
EmissaryOfWind
You should try to do it in FO4Edit instead, there are many instances where it's easier to use than the CK.
Bennybloke
Thank you for the pointer, I've since downloaded FO4Edit and had a look around in there, but to be honest it just confused me even more lol. I shall persevere, I know it's possible there are mods out there already that do similar things.

In earlier games to create unique looking NPCs we'd set up a unique race for the character, but there are currently problems/bugs with implementing new races and the NPC records are bugged as well. To do what he did you would: 1) set up folders for the unique textures and meshes2) create new armor addons for the NPC that you want to look unique (there are two vanilla armor addons for this "Naked Hands" and "Naked Torso" that you can look at/duplicate and rename to use for yours. Do not change/use the vanilla ones) You point to your new folders when you create these.3) create the new skin armor ("SkinNaked" is the vanilla version) for the NPC. There's a section on the armor where you will need to add your new armor addons and remove the vanilla ones. Again, don't change the vanilla records.4) Go to the the traits page of the NPC record you want to have the unique look. At the top of that page there is a pull down menu for "skin" and you can choose your newly created skin armor there.5) He's ticked the "Is CharGen Face Preset" box on the NPC record (just under the NPC name) but it's unclear why that should be done. Rumor has it that it gets your changes to actually stick in game, but it didn't do anything for me with the problems I'm having with the bugged NPC record. I have seen other people report success after doing it, though, so YMMV.
Bennybloke
Thank you very much for the reply, that actually makes a lot of sense. I've been trying to find a way for a new npc to use its own mesh and then modify the relevant outfit with bodyslide or something, but that sounds a hell of a lot easier lolThank you again
