What is the best settlement to use for a man cave?

aka base of operations aka command center. Basically I don't want anyone else there. I don't want to deal with settlement attacks, happiness, defense, food, water, or any of that stuff. I just want a small place that I can personalize for my own use, craft weapons and chems, keep my power armor, and store all my crap.

I have been using the gas station so far, but I was wondering if there were better locations.

By the way, if I store my companions there will that lead to settlement attacks? And if I ignore a settlement attack will that delete all the stuff I have built and what I have stored in containers?

In your place I would try to get some more indepth info on Conquest by Chesko (creator of Frostfall). It allows building new settlements anywhere you want. You would just have to find a location where are no enemy spawns. I think top of the bridge would be a safe bet, but you need to check how the mod deals with random settlement attacks.

Or you could dabble in the CK and create something similar to a player home.

spectacle island. it can be seen from the castle across the water. it needs to be cleared of enemies first but it the biggest settelment available and with automatron out you can build a mister handy to farm for you, a sentry bot to act as provisioner to the castle (idk how that works but it does. if immersion is your thing use a hover thruster insted and pretend they just skim over the water) and keep other settlers away entirely. i use the personal craftable vertibird mod to make my transport on and off the island, i limit myself to only traveling to certain places i know it can land safely at or places i built a helipad at. i also use the "scrap dead things" and "spring cleaning" mods to ged rid of a lot of stuff like leaf piles, bushes, and the wrecked house so i could start over semi fresh. its the biggest sttlement in the game so far so it has the most freedom to build in. i have a 3 story cement bunker, with a helipad on top, and my only other companions are the 7 semi tamed death claws i keep around for security.

Outpost Zimonja. It's a bit off the grid but I've never had an attack there even with the one raider camping out near by in the truck trailer. I like to build a wall around the perimeter with gates and turrets and I bring in like 4 settlers, two for defense outposts and two for gardening and they get the best gear I can give them. The little shack there has a nice place behind it that you can lay floors down and build an additional room and then I build a level above that. This settlement has a really high roof because of the radio tower so you can build some pretty large buildings in a small area. The only down side is being all the way on the north border of the map, but if you want an off the grid settlement that is overlooked by pretty much the entire wasteland, this is it.

Otherwise I really like Red Rocket too. I like that you get a solid building with solid walls and working sliding doors and even a garage door. It's a pretty unique settlement.

Really? No mention of Home Plate?

I second this, Home Plate is exactly what OP is asking for, and it already looks like a cave to begin with.

But there are perks to regular settlements, The Castle or settlements next to large bodies of water actually generates money by producing purify water.

+1 for Home Plate.

The other one that is way cool and does not require any settlers is the Mechanist's Lair.

You can totally populate the thing with massive amounts of defensive structures, turrets and robots. Plus the robots, for some reason do not generate or require any happiness.

I have three(3) robots in my Lair and the Happiness level remains a constant 50%

Plus, the Lair comes with many crafting stations already built near the settlement build area.

The Lair is a perfect starting point for a Man-Cave.

On top of that get this:

Basement Living - Bunker and Basement Player Homes (with standalone Workshops)

Lots of interior space where no one will bother you.

I suggested red rocket because the OP named that as a spot he likes to be.

But, i am definitely going to download your suggestion for my next play-trough....

However, what does a girl want with a man cave ?...;)

PS/ My player-character is a girl, not me...
